We will be tracking Ed, Rubber Duckie and Paul Morison via satellite. if you click on the screenshot of the map you will see exactly where they are on the race course as they circumnavigate Cape Ann.
The screenshot below was taken at 6:08 when they boys arrived at the starting line at Gloucester High School. If you click the picture it will show you a refreshed map of exactly where they are as the day progresses.
Ed Collard talking pretty confidently in his interview here but I think we all know he is secretly hoping for the race to be called early due to heat, LOL! I will say this-
If Ed Collard does indeed complete the Blackburn Challenge after only 5 times being in a Kayak I’ll be convinced he can do anything.
A note to all Blackburn Challenger Competitors and their families-
Swing down the dock after the race to get a free Good Morning Gloucester Sticker and have your picture taken for these pages Representing!
The boys have been averaging 5 mph according to our satellite tracker
8:10AM
8:27AM 5mph
8:42AM 4mph

Nice touch… was just over at the Back Shore and saw them go by and then watched the leaders go by my haunt on Rocky Neck just moments ago. They sure had good fortune with the light rain and clouds until they finished… the suns about to come out and bake us again…

Wow! they’re really flying now. 3mph and 30 feet above sea level off of braces cove. I knew paul the mad scientist morrison had something planned. he added wings to the kayaks.

I knew Ed would make it, but where’s Paul!? Did he break away from Ed at the end to get to the pulled pork sandwiches and beer first?

Last few frames as I help Ed out of the kayak I have pulled pork stuffed in my mouth and an ale in the other hand. The last two miles into the harbor Ed took the scenic route.

Thanks to all but a special thanks to Paul Morrison. In a short time he prepared me for every aspect of this challenge. Thanks Paul.

You only sat your butt in a kayak four times before the challenge but from the first training session I could tell you were going to go all the way around. Like a duck to water.
