Basking Sharks are very docile creatures feeding on plankton and krill.

basking sharks eat only plankton. they pose no threat whatsoever to humans and truth be known, we are the agressors who threaten their survival.

I saw a similar one this past w/e about 3 miles out of Gloucester Harbor. What a treat! Maybe it was the same one!

I saw a basking shark this big or bigger just inside the Rockport breakwater yesterday 6/22/14). (The breakwater that is a mile out in Sandy Bay.) If I had not seen this GMG video I would have thought it might have been a great white but it acted just like this dude. Pretty big dorsal fin which stayed out of the water for minutes at a time and the much smaller tail fin following lazily ten or more feet behind. So she must have been at least sixteen feet long.
Just moseying along heading for the Straitsmouth light.
If I had not seen the video a great white cruising in to eat some of the enormous seals laying about on the dry salvages would have been my only guess. Did not get close enough to check her mouth out.
