I have a minor photographic mystery for you. I recently came across this postcard on eBay, showing a WWII DUKW emerging onto Pavilion Beach, with Ten Pound Island Light in the background. Do you or any of your readers remember when these tours operated in Gloucester? The caption on the back of the card reads "Amphibious duck ride from land to sea on a guided tour of Gloucester Harbor. Leaving every half hour from Pavilion Beach, Gloucester, Massachusetts."

Good Morning Gloucester 
I do remember this as my family lived near there at that time, so I would say early 1950’s. I always wanted a ride on it but guess I was too little. My father knew all about this type of boat and had served patroling the beaches at night during the war as part of the Coast Guard Reserve I think.

I lived on the boulevard from 1941 to 1952 and it was late 40’s or possibly early 50’s. I remember I was thrilled when the operator gave us kids a free ride. I think the cost was a quarter, normally. Also if you look at the end of Ten Pound island right above the windshield of the DUK you can make out the buildings of the lobster hatchery that was run by the Fish & Wildlife of the federal government. That was in the good old days when the government actually HELPED the fishermen!

I was born in Gloucester in 1945 and lived there until 1955. I remember my grandfather taking me for a ride on it when I was around seven or eight years old. I loved it! Those really were the good old days.

YES I WOULD SAY THE EARLY 1950″S ALSO. I GREW UP IN GLOUCESTER AND REMEMBER THIS WORLD WAR 11 AMPHIBIOUS DUCK .ON STACY BLVD. GREAT TIMES.
