  2. Kelly’s roast beef and seafood, like the one in saugus is good, but thier windows are slow, and the food is expensive for waht you get, but always good and hot.
    We like Burger King (sometimes stop at rte128 loc on our way to Gloucester);and Wendy’s too. Quick easy and fast!

  4. “Have it your way – at Burger King!” As a kid, my parents would pile my sister (Painter Barb) and I into our 1956 Buick Special station wagon and drive 30+ minutes to the West Babylon, NY Burger King, the first in our area. I loved the Whoppers and Cheese Whoppers, which we’d eat in the car. As I got older, I still favored Burger King, and would stop by the Wantagh, NY for a meal after surfing, or after work at Jones Beach State Park during my college days.

  17. Please try to keep it local…..no chains!
    We’re just completing a “village” type shopping area in our town! We voted for it based on “Mom and Pop” type small shops….as it is getting ready to open, we have nothing like a village shopping area, but a huge mall with nothing but chains ~ you can have our Panera, Subway, Super Cuts,
    and Bertucci’s, less than a third of what’s to come…..I want Virgilio’s!!! Last Stop, Janice’s great bookstore…Fred’s fantastic photos, The Rudder ~ quality, not cheap quantity!

    We have an out of control monster, no one but the developer wants!

    BTW, our town has 13,000 households…..

  20. My fantasy would be Popeyes Fried Chicken. I don’t think there’s a snowballs chance, as their marketing research probably shows their food much too spicy for Yankee palates. But a girl can dream!

  27. UFood. There is one in Boston across from the Opera House. Reasonably priced, healthy food in a fast food restaurant. Every meal comes with calorie count so you can choose well, or not. Tasty too! EPK

  29. It’s interesting to read that Five Guys left Gloucester. When I was there last year, I had never heard of the Five Guys chain before then. I assumed it was yet another sandwich shop run by locals but didn’t investigate further. Coincidentally, right after I returned to where I live now in Louisiana, they opened a Five Guys down here in Alexandria. Everybody made such a big fuss about its arrival, but I didn’t care for it at all, at least not the way it’s served at that particular franchise. Five Guys’ food is overpriced for the area, the service is wicked slow, and the jury’s out on their fries.

    I’m assuming from all the votes for KFC that they didn’t open another franchise after the one in Danvers closed. If I lived in Gloucester now, I would miss KFC, too. However, being in the Deep South, I live in an area where Popeye’s, KFC, Church’s, etc. are all clustered right next to each other along the local highways. Despite this, they still manage to all stay in business right alongside the mom-and-pop down-home chicken and rib joints as well as the burger, Mexican and pizza chains..

    I guess the real question is what goes best with a trip to Gloucester Crossing, a quick bite while shopping, leisurely sit-down dining, or something in-between like an internet cafe? I don’t think the city needs yet another Dunkin’ Donuts (though I pray on a daily basis they’d open one within less than 125 miles of where I am now), but shoppers might want something in a hurry.

  32. Approach Smokin’ Jim to open a “year ’round” rib joint…think about it, where would you go to on Cape Ann if you had a had a “hankerin’ for ribs” in December,… Sommerville?

  37. Locally I’d love to see another Common Crow or Willows where we can purchase local, organic, high quality grocery items PLUS grab a bite from the fantistic menus both serve from the counter. If we had to go with a chain, I vote for Chipotle for the closest ‘responsible’ and healy chain fare available.

  42. How about something we don’t have in Glouester yet? A REALLY good Japanese restaurant… That would provide not only good (and healthy) food, but be a little more of a calm oasis in a busy spot.

    2. Thai Choice has great asian food, yeah it isn’t Japanese but the women who own the
      place do a wonderful job there. The food is reasonable and delicious.

The people who frequent Gloucester Crossing I imagine would want fast and easy as well as ambiance to meet and eat with coffee, pastry, sandwiches, including vegan and healthier choices than burgers (which did not work) or chicken or Italian (which we have many and the best). PANERA style or Not Your Average Joe’s might be good choices for patrons and employees of that mall.

  49. When I first heard that 5guys were going there I didn’t they had a chance. Burgers and fries and that’s it? They need a bigger choice of menu items. I feel bad for the guys who started that Franchise. They were really energized.

    Of course most of these people commenting are wrong. Here are my Thoughts. 🙂
    Japanese? we have Midori’s, Lat 43, the Madfish for raw fish.
    Boston Market is on their way out.
    I would love a KFC TACO BELL but they don’t have any drive thru options up there.
    Indian food may work well in a downtown location but not at GC. WHAT THE HECK IS INDIAN FOOD ANYWAYS? They don’t eat meat, Right?
    What the “F” is a Steak and Shake is that the Mad cow disease?
    Starbucks? Overpriced burnt coffee.
    Average Joe’s? Never been there so I can’t comment.
    Bertuccis? We don’t need no stinkin’ fake Italian Restaurant here.
    Never heard of Londi’s, Cosi’s and the other’s to comment on.

    But most of you are wrong unless you agree with my list below

    THERE’S PLENTY OF OPEN STORE FRONTS THERE BESIDES FIVE GUYS TO HAVE A TRADER JOE’S (WHICH I LOVE).
    OR A BED BATH AND WHATEVER.

    I’D LIKE TO SEE IN THIS ORDER AT THE 5GUYS STORE;
    1. Qudoba
    2. Panera Bread
    3. KFC/TACO BELL

    and of Course Fred ,Sista Felicia’s Restaurant would a be a great addition to The West End.
    GC Is too mall like for the kind of food Felicia cooks. Her place needs charm to go with that food.

    1. I’ve been biting my tongue on some of the comments which seem pretty non-nonsensical to me.
      Actually what I’d like to see more than a KFC is a second location of any of our big three coffee shops- Lone Gull, Cape Ann Coffee, or Pleasant Street.
      Often times I go to Market basket to grab some food for lunch and would love to be able to pop into one of the coffee shops if it was located up there. I also think it would be one of those symbiotic relationship things where the people that go to market Basket or Marshals or ACE would pop in there before or after for a cup of good coffee in comfy seats.
      It would make GC more of a destination and higher traffic would probably lead to other empty storefronts up there getting filled.

      2. I absolutely agree! Being able to pick up a coffee and snack while shopping is a must. Definately no chains. The employees up there also would probably appreciate it too.

      3. I am for Cape Ann Coffees – their food is delicious and they have the very best clam chowder on the Cape. I also love the Willows, but I think the competition of Market Basket would hurt their vegetable sales. They have a great following already. Sandy Andrew

    1. See, I would have loved to put that in there but you’re 23 minutes late. Deadline was at 5PM and as you know Cape Ann Giclee would kick any framers ass anyway.

Nothing will do well in that space because Sam Park’s “destination” – with such strong pull from the surrounding communities Ipswich, Essex, Magnolia – ha ha – is hobbled together by Market Basket and chez Marshall’s. Being a long-time lover of Demoulas’ I shop the Basket (the first time was hard, but I did it after coming out of hospital, recovering from anesthesia – I was somewhat numb) and their little bakery and deli is great. So if you’re hungry, you’ll grab something like a cup of chili, their sushi, a sub. Or, you’re not going to “the mall” when there are a gazillion other choices and variety in Gloucester. Except for Indian food. Tsk Tsk Joey. Head to Passage to India in Salem or Anmol in Beverly. No meat? You’re killing me. Fish, chicken, lamb. FISH. Let’s revisit what people said that they were missing in Gloucester, during the city council’s thorough vetting of the economic impact of Gloucester Crossing. Men’s underwear. Men’s socks. My vote is for a Hane’s outlet. Let them eat cake.

    1. I’m psyched to have Market Basket and the huge savings it brings my family compared to the raping we were taking from Shaws and Stop and Shop before they came. Not sure what the Tsk Tsk is all about but I’d like an Indian restaurant too but I’m thinking any of those types of sit down restaurants would do better downtown. My vote is for the locally owned coffee shop because i think it would bring people there before or after they shop at Market Basket, Ace Hardware or Marshalls.
