Open Air Art Exhibit Panorama- Fifth Ave Playa Del Carmen

When we were planning the first Downtown Gloucester Block Parties one of the original ideas was to allow local artist to set up and display/sell their art. We had a few artists come down but not nearly what I thought we would have. The reason given was that it was a real PITA to set up and break down the artwork.

I could see that point, but as we walked the street yesterday we saw some big pieces selling.

Have I said before that I’m a huge fan of this place? Because if I haven’t, let me tell you, it’s great. Super friendly people in all of the services, great beaches, FANTASTIC restaurants, very very safe, cool architecture, I’d come back in a heartbeat.

  1. I think we could do street artists here- let’s keep trying. Winter is tough, but something could be worked out for artists to set up in a heated space. On Saturday January 21st, we’ll have an opening along with the Grand Opening of Cape Ann Olive Oil. Premier Impressions across the street from them will also be open. Invitation to follow.

  2. Joey, my brother owns a house on Cozumel, you can see Cozumel from Playa and it’s just a short ferry ride over there. Every thing you have said about the area is right on. I love that part of MX, Enjoy the vacation.

  3. As an artist, I found the lighting, or lack of, to be the biggest problem for night block parties. I tried it a couple of times and found people to be more interested in the food stations.

  4. Playa del Carmen is also 1 of my favorite places in the world! You used to be able to get a non-stop flight Boston to Cancun on Jet Blue, and be on the beach by 2 o’clock in the afternoon!
