Sold Out Once Again- It was hilarious.  People walking by and get a whiff of the mudiga steaks on the grill and it’s like they were led by their nose to her spot.  If you’re cooking on nights like last night when you could go to The Cape Ann Farmer’s Market and get grub like this- You Crazy.

Al Contarino and George Peters are the creators and owners Of KettlePizza, an insert system that turns charcoal kettle grills into outdoor pizza ovens for very little money.  As it turns out Al’s sister Donna is a regular GMG reader and after seeing my obsession with grilling and that I bought a KettlePizza insert, she suggested that Al and I get together and have at it making some backyard pies.

Well I feel pretty comfortable cooking up meat but when it comes to dough and pizza making obviously I’m gonna enlist Sista Felicia who already has her own dough recipe and multiple pizza recipes in her cookbook- Gifts of Gold (purchase her cookbook here)

Felicia maintained that one of the key reasons for the over the top results besides having awesome equipment in the Stok Drum Charcoal Grill and KettlePizza was the very best ingredients from Sclafani’s Italian Bakery and The Cave

The fun we had making pizzas in the back yard combined with the crazy incredible results makes The KettlePizza system an absolute no brainer must have grill component.

You already know how much I love my STOK Grill- check out the STOK system here

Grilled Lamb Chops with Creamy Dill Cucumber Dipping Sauce

lamb chop

This recipe was created several years ago, on a whim, using ingredients I had on hand in my pantry. The combination of flavors from the herbed marinated grilled chops are perfectly balanced with the Creamy Dill Cucumber Dipping Sauce. To say they are incredibly tasty is a huge understatement! These Grilled Lamb Chops have become the highlight of our Easter meal. I guarantee that they will disappear from the serving platter in minutes, and strongly recommend setting some aside for yourself if your the one cooking Easter Dinner!

Yesterday aunt Gina Ciaramitaro, cousin Mary Marcantonio, BFF Dee Noble, and friends, Andrea Randazza Carlson, Kerrie Callahan Donahue, Christie Guarrasi DaSilva, Andrea Butler Bridget Mathews, all stopped by to help set up the altar, and dinning room tables for this years St. Jpseph Rosary. Ladies thank you from the bottom of my heart for everything you did yesterday! I can’t believe the altar is ready and the tables are set! I love our tradition of spending the day together, preparing for the nine day rosary, and especially love, our traditional Virgilio’s St. Joseph Sandwiches lunch around the dinning room table and afternoon Cappuccino break reminasing about past years. We make an incredible team! I’m looking forward to building more memories together this year!

Thank you all

CUCCIADATTA COOKIES ~ Christmas Fig Cookies Sicilain Style

CUCCIADATTA COOKIES

It simply would not be Christmas in a Sicilian home without Cucciadatta Cookies on the table. Each year on December 19 the ladies in our family reconvene in my kitchen to prepare Pinulata and Cucciadatta Cookies, two very special traditional holiday desserts that have been made for generation in the Sicilian culture. The event of making these desserts is celebrated as if it were a holiday of its own for the women in my family. It is a night we all look forward to, we bake, compete,  joke, laugh, and reminisce about years past. A family gathering that sweetens our soles.

December 13th is Santa Lucia Day Learn more About The Day Here

From wikipedia-

Italy

St. Lucia is the patron saint of the city of Syracuse (Sicily), where she was born. Celebrations take place on the 13th of December and in May. St. Lucy is also popular among children in some regions of North-Eastern Italy, namely Trentino, East Lombardy (Bergamo, Brescia, Cremona and Mantua), parts of Veneto, (Verona), parts of Emilia-Romagna, (Piacenza, Parma and Reggio Emilia), and all of Friuli, where she brings gifts to good children and coal to bad ones the night between December 12 and 13. She arrives in the company of a donkey and her escort, Castaldo. Children are asked to leave some coffee for Lucia, some flour for the donkey and bread for Castaldo. They must not watch Santa Lucia delivering these gifts, or she will throw ashes in their eyes, temporarily blinding them. In Sicily and among the Sicilian diaspora, cuccìa is eaten in memory of Saint Lucy’s miraculous averting of famine.

Sunday afternoon, my friends and family joined me for my 5th annual personal Christmas Party. My childhood friend Katrina Lafata Haskell’s husband Jim kick off of our evening with a special wine tasting, which included a bottle of homemade wine produced here in Gloucester, by Friends Neil & Bridgett Mathews, and their Family. Every year we looks forward to learning something new  from Jim about his line of wines. This year wine was served in hand painted wine glasses  adorned rhinestone “PEACE” symbols made by my mom.  The hand painted glasses have become an annual tradition my mom and guests equally enjoy!  Mom loves to create them, and our guests enjoy taking them home at the end of the night. I want to thank my husband St. Barry and my mother Pat for insisting I keep tradition and host the party this year, when they heard talks about me not hosting it this year, shortly after my daughter recent surgery. They knew I need a night of fun, and knew this night would raise my spirits….and that it did!  Thank you ladies and Merry Christmas!
