Beth Swan and Rob Hall Want You To Check Out- Marion Stoddart’s Documentary-The Work of 1000

Hi Joey!

image

The documentary that Rob and I have been privileged to work on is premiering! We’re very excited and though it isn’t necessarily Gloucester, or even Cape Ann related, all the water flows into the ocean eventually and it is relatively local.

An inspiring story of how one person can do the work of 1000 it shows how one woman helped transform a river and initiated ripples of positive environmental impact throughout the community, state, and national levels.

The project is more than a documentary. It is a vehicle for empowering and inspiring individual and collective action, an educational resource, and a model of effective leadership and advocacy that we can use today. A ten minute movie short version, partially funded by MassHumanities, has been shown to over 600 people ranging from high school and college students to technical "water keepers", to conservation and recreation organizations. Come see the full movie in Groton, MA on June 12th!

Tickets to the movie are free and the celebration party afterward is $25.

Steal Stuff At The Landmark Auction

From FOB Rob Hall-

Hello Joey,

Thought GMG readers might be interested in the Landmark School Online Auction. It is only running until Friday and it hasn’t had that much exposure so there are a bunch of great steals to be had.

http://www.landmarkschool.cmarket.com/

A bunch of Cape Ann residents have donated items including a European Facial and Beauty Products from Soft Touch Salon in Gloucester.

GMG Q&A – Rob Hall

Local Website everyone should know about (excluding GMG)
I like looking at reviews of local businesses and places on yelp. http://www.yelp.com/search?find_loc=01930

How long have you lived in Gloucester?

We closed on our house on leap year day 2008, so it has almost been exactly one year. I was hoping that the city would allow us to pay our water bill annually on that day! I grew up in a neighboring community on Cape Ann.
What is your favorite season In Gloucester?

Not Winter.

Do you have any secret outdoor spots in Gloucester where you go to “get away”?

My back deck.

What is your favorite pizza joint in Gloucester?

Valentino’s  for sit down and Sebastian’s for take out.

What is your favorite sub shop in Gloucester?

Need to try more sub shops but probably Virgilio’s.

What place would you go for a romantic dinner in Gloucester?

Alchemy.

What is your favorite bar in Gloucester?

I’m a family man now. However, I’m glad that Cape Ann Brewing is now serving at the brewery and I’m excited to check it out.

What is your favorite breakfast joint in Gloucester?

Two Sisters or Sugar Magnolias

What is your favorite local event in Gloucester?

Schooner festival or 4th of July events.

In the summer do you prefer the beach or to be on a boat?

A good mix of both.

Who is your favorite local artist?

I have to give a shot out to my mother, Marion Hall.

Which is your favorite local beach?

Wingaersheek

Who has the best chowder in town?

Charlie’s Place. I also remember having a great seafood chowder at The Gull.

Excluding GMG what is your second favorite local blog?

I don’t subscribe to any other local blogs. I do subscribe to the feed from the Gloucester Times.

Do you prefer haddock chowder or clam chowder?
Depends on my mood, but I’m a big fan of chowder in general. (I’ve always wondered why the two chowder questions aren’t next to each other.)

What were your thoughts on The Downtown Block Parties last year?

I was only able to attend the first one but I had a GREAT time! We had some friends visiting and they thought that Gloucester was a pretty impressive place based on what they saw that night. It was great to check out all the shops on Main Street as it can be hard to get there before 6 PM on normal day. I loved that we suspended our puritanical ways for one night and allowed al fresco dining on the street with *GASP* real drinks.

What is your favorite local band?

Don’t have one yet… You should feature local bands on GMG with music downloads.
Thanks for putting so much time into producing such a great site, it is a real asset to the community.

Outstanding Reader Feedback Idea From Rob Hall

Rob Hall sent in this great suggestion-

How about this for an idea… A day in the life of Gloucester.
Pick a day, and have all of your readers send in a photo showing what they did in Gloucester that day. You would get an interesting cross section of different people and events.

I say………….. LETS DO IT!!!!!!!

LETS DO IT TODAY!!!!!!

I’d like to take it even further.   For those of you that have a little time on your hands today, grab your digital camera and you have two options-

Option 1. Take one picture to represent a day in your life (today) and submit it for part of  “A Day In The Life In Gloucester Slideshow” with everyone else that submits one.

Option 2. Take a bunch of pictures throughout your day (today) and send em in to me and I’ll put them into your very own slideshow featuring your day apart from the group slideshow.

Who’s in?

So you can take one pic and send it in or you could take a pic of each different part of your day and send it in.  If you take the first option you will be part of the slideshow  “A Day In The Life In Gloucester” if you take the second option I’ll put your group of pictures throughout the day that you take and put them into your own slideshow.

What should you take pictures of you ask?

Whatever you would like-a family photo eating breakfast,a beautiful industry photo, a Gloucester Door photo, something that’s important to you photo, a pic of your favorite spot in Gloucester, you could be in the pic, you could take a picture of a downtown scene, a scene up in dogtown, whatever.

*No nekkid pics please

This should be fun!

Thanks to Rob Hall for the suggestion.
