Amex rolled this out in 2010. I wonder who the early adapters were in Gloucester and Cape Ann?

Pauline Bresnahan forwards the Cape Ann Veterans Services list. “Please share, boxes will be shipped overseas to arrive in time for the Holidays.” When my kids were at East Gloucester awesome Mrs. Pierce organized for this collection, helping kids understand the significance and giving them an opportunity to be helpful and give back.
In case you missed the one day art show for the Phyllis A Marine Assoc good cause, here’s a link to their current fundraising campaign. The photographs indicate some of the participating artists–look for their work!

Anita’s son David served in the Marine Corps and was killed in action on August 1, 2005. She and her husband, Greg, help returning veterans. They spoke about her son and some of the projects they’ve supported. Good Morning Gloucester readers may remember Anita’s joy in finding a Paul Frontiero “Art, Rocks!”, and donating a flag to the Boulevard. Anita’s mom was born in Gloucester in 1917; her Uncle was dear friends with Pauline Bresnahan’s father.
Adam Curcuru and the veterans office volunteers discussed projects that the Cape Ann Veterans Services is involved with. Stories were shared and a few tears. It was all very inspiring. We passed around a copy of the children’s book that is going to all the elementary school classes for Veterans Day. We spent time admiring the Welcome Home to Cape Ann Veterans Gift Packages, a program “designed to show Cape Ann’s appreciation for our returning veterans and let them know that Cape Ann supports them in this process of transitioning out of the military and back into our community.”
With or without the Gloucester family connections, I believe that Anita and Greg are so impressed by the Cape Ann Veterans Services that they would be delighted to work together anyhow. Learn more about David, and Anita and Greg’s projects http://www.sgtdavidcoullard.com. Mutts Mending Military is another organization they’ve supported. How nice that Cape Ann Veterans Services is included.
I learned that the 2016 Welcome Home to Cape Ann Veterans we left the light on for you Gift Packages were made possible by the Cape Ann Veterans Services, Gloucester MA Elks Lodge #892, and the Manchester Athletic Club, and that they are made extra homey special because they are stuffed with support information and gift certificates from so many local donors, businesses and organizations:

Thanksgiving Break Pop Up Art Fair sale and exhibit
Thanksgiving is a time to reflect on how grateful you are and remember others. We want to thank you by celebrating your art. Home for the holidays- or not- here’s a chance to show what you’ve done and add an exhibit to your CV! Way better than calling your mother. But do that, too.
Where: the HIVE part of Art Haven (established 2008!) amazing arts center is the host venue, 11 Pleasant Street, Gloucester, MA 01930.
When: One day only, Saturday 11/28/15, from 4-8pm, Thanksgiving break weekend
It’s also “Small Business Saturday” – just after Black Friday. Come downtown and support our local shops and young artists. BONUS! 8pm is still early night for young creatives
Who: Gloucester creative collegiates, recent grads, 18 up and under 30
What: Exhibit a sample of your art, any media (sculptor, song writer, musician, poet, jeweler, dancer, graphic designer, ceramicist) Take us from “Hey my kid could do that” to “Hey my kid did that!” and “I want it!” We’ll help figure out the display if you can’t. You are responsible for delivery and take away. Stay in touch for more information.
We’re in the ‘save the date’ early planning stage and hope:
· that you can be there in person to experience the pop up art fair exhibit and celebration, host your ‘booth’, network, and more. If you can’t your art can (and your friends and family at home can drop by. More than turkey for the empty nesters.)
· that you can sell something
· that a digital one page tear sheet for each artist is created
· that you buddy up with one TAG artist
· that a directory is fostered – like an alumni news so you can together share contacts and expertise, friendship, and that you can build a contact list of people interested in your work
· Did you know that Pauline’s daughter, Kate, David Brooks (founder Art Haven) and Leon Doucette (currently working at Cape Ann Museum) graduated the same year from Gloucester High? What other local news will we learn?
Contact: Email Pauline Bresnahan firstname.lastname@example.org
if you want to exhibit, if you’re a parent of a college student who may want to hear about it, if you’d like to help, if you’d like to be a sponsor. Three artists have already signed up Kate Bresnahan, James Curcuru and Nicole Dahlmer.

With Memorial Day this weekend I thought I could pass along a little information on flying your American flag that people may or may not know.
On Memorial Day flags should be flown at half-staff until noon.
It should not be displayed at all during stormy or rainy weather, unless for some special reason and in NO case should it ever touch the ground. It should be raised with hearty briskness and when lowered, it should be done solemnly and slowly.
When the flag is displayed horizontally or vertically flat against a wall or similar place, the blue field must be at the left of a person facing it.
I have proudly sold American flags at the store for over 12 years and proudly carry ONLY American flags that are Made in USA!
Whenever purchasing an American flag I think that people do not realize that many of the flags that cost less are made overseas.
Please buy American and fly it with pride.
Our next important date for flying your American flag is Flag day which is June 14th.
Don’t forget to thank a Veteran this weekend.

Tom and Lisa from the amazing “LOBSTER POOL” restaurant have been coming into the store for many years purchasing flags. This year after no luck finding a pre-made lobster flag for the restaurant I offered to paint one for them.
Should be flying there this weekend. It was a lot of fun creating this for them.
I think after this hand painting flags will be a new item for the shop.
Thanks and hope to see you soon.
