Henri Smith with Dana & Mugs on 104.9 FM Tomorrow at 8:40AM — WIN TIX

Henri Smith taken in New Orleans when he went back for Allen Toussaint’s Funeral

Tune in to Northshore 104.9 FM tomorrow at 8:40AM for some fun when Dana & Mugs welcome local singer/bandleader Henri Smith (who moved to Gloucester after Hurricane Katrina destroyed his home).  You’ll learn how Henri & Charles Neville (of the Neville Brothers) are nurturing the next generation of top musicians through this week’s debut of The New England Neville Brothers in Beverly (more info here).  And you can bet Dana Hersey will ask Henri about his roles in several films shot in New England, including “The Great Debaters,” “Double Jeopardy,” “Pink Panther 2” and “Shutter Island.”

Best of all you could win a pair of tickets to Friday’s show and dance with Henri Smith along with Grammy-winners Charles Neville & Amadee Castenell and the next generation of Neville Brothers at the fully air conditioned Vittori-Rocci Post right off Rte 128 in Beverly!  Good seats are still available for only $25.00.  GET THEM HERE.

Here’s an example of what that was like 2 years ago at a show in Gloucester!

Finding Nemo fun at HarborWalk Summer Cinema

What a treat! I wish everyone could have heard the hundreds of happy cries of  “Mine. Mine. Mine.” with each unforgettable Finding Nemo seagull scene. This was real life surround sound right at Gloucester’s harbor, seagulls aloft and searching in the enveloping night.

6pm–hundreds more will stream in before the movie starts!

OPEN DOOR at Gloucester HarborWalk 2016 Summer Cinema, with pre movie family activities and canned food drive. Finding Nemo sponsor

Thanks Rob, Cape Ann Community Cinema & Stage, for the community movie nights and for taking these photos. I didn’t bring my camera and was too busy eating even if I had!  What did we carry in and carry home?  On the way to the movies, we walked over to purchase delicious take-out subs from Leonardos for a picnic, and bug spray (not needed it turned out) and sundries from Walgreens. From the vendors at the outdoor movies we picked out candy, Kettlecorn and slush. We didn’t have the fried dough but there’s always next week!

Finding Nemo was the second movie of five FREE outdoor movies hosted by the City of Gloucester HarborWalk through the Cape Ann Community Cinema. Aurelia from North Shore 104.9 and Open Door hosted the festive pre-screening gathering.

The three premier sponsors for the HarborWalk Summer Cinema are North Shore 104.9, Cape Ann Savings Bank, and North Shore Community College. Finding Nemo was presented by Open Door. Next week’s Minions will be shown thanks to Toodeloos!

More fun with Radio Ads & Adobe Premiere

Some of you may remember the last time I added visuals to a radio ad and made a video.  Well I’ve done it again for our UU Meetinghouse benefit next Friday, April 25 featuring local stars 3rian King, Chelsea Berry, Renee Dupuis, Joe Cardoza and Dennis Monagle with Boston-based Meff and Brendan Burns, all of whom “come together” as The Number Nines for a fresh take on The Beatles.

CREDITS: Music by The Number Nines; radio ad produced by Jay Foss of Northshore 104.9;  most of the photos by Louise Welch & Philip Doyle;  the Number Nines logo by 3rian King.  Poster design by Vickie Van Ness.

Having some fun with a radio ad and Adobe Premiere

Now we often fast forward through TV commercials or change the car radio station when an ad come on, but once in a while somebody crafts such a good radio spot that you can’t help but listen.  That’s what our friends Aurelia Nelson & Jay Foss at Northshore 104.9 did this week and I was so inspired when I heard it that I decided to pop into Adobe Premiere and have some fun.  This is what came out:

And by the way, there are still good seats left to what could be your last chance to see these young, rising blues stars before they break into big venues.  Get them here.

New FM Radio Signal In Boston Radio Market

Upgraded FM Signal to cover over 1 million more people inside the Boston Radio Market

Beverly, MA, January 9, 2013: WBOQ 104.9 FM announces the upgrade of WBOQ FM radio licensed to Gloucester, MA. WBOQ has moved its main transmitter site 11 miles West of the former transmitter site trading 11 miles of Atlantic Ocean coverage for 11 miles plus coverage of densely populated geography in the suburbs of Boston located in Essex and Middlesex counties and into Southern New Hampshire.

The move in project has been years in the making with federal approval from the FCC and FAA and local zoning approvals. WBOQ will launch the new station with all new state of the art antenna and transmitter equipment.

The stations move may not be its last as the station still has the ability for another upgrade with approval from the FCC and cooperation of another New England broadcaster that would give WBOQ one of the largest FM signals in the Boston radio market.

Station President and Owner, Todd Tanger, commented, “We are excited to turn on our new signal on Thursday January 10th as we continue to serve the North Shore of Boston and beyond. “ WBOQ is one of the last privately held FM radio stations in the country. Tanger also said, “ We have always taken pride in our opportunity to provide great music, information, and free public service announcements to our neighbors and friends.”

WBOQ FM’s signal will now reach a potential 2.4 million people in the Boston Radio Market.

WBOQ has been called North Shore 104.9 since 2003.

WBOQ FM has been home of the Red Sox Radio on the FM dial since 2006.

The Boston Radio market is the 10th ranked radio market in the United States.
