John Rockwell and his band Loose Tongues @ Katrina’s 7-10pm 6.1.2016

loose tongues 1

Last time I got to see Loose Tongues they were so wicked good..
Wicked nice guys, too!
I tried to keep track of all the songs they played. not sure if the titles are correct or not but you get the drift. One song after another and with awesome harmonies…seriously…if you want to fill your Wednesday evening up with some sweetly performed all time favorites Katrina’s is place for it tonight…

Here’s the list…

Here comes the sun
But there’s a full moon risin’
Let’s go dancin’ in the light
We know where the music’s playin’…
She’s got a ticket to ride..
Gone Gone Gone …..really gone…cause you done me wrong
You’ve lost that lovin feelin..
She was just seventeen
Lord I was born a Ramblin man..
Drinks to remember
If not for you
Working on her night moves
Kathys clown
Me and Julio down by the school yard
Mussels from a shell
So sad …save it for a rainy day…jayhawks
All the right reasons…
Here comes the sun
Beware of darkness
Falling Slowly
Let you down
Shower the people
Weather with you

We’re not always right but we’re right about this

Once in a while we pick a winner.  This is one of those times … trust me.  Ruby Rose Fox will be a major Rock Star in the not-too-distant future.

We’ve presented Ruby Rose Fox on stage twice: Opening for Martha Davis + The Motels last April at Beverly’s Larcom Theatre (where Sheila Roberts Orlando took the photo at right) and in a co-bill with Jesse Dee at The Cabot last July (see this review).

In addition to being one of the best singers and songwriters we’ve encountered over the past dozen or so years, Ruby produces extraordinary videos (see them here).

Today she premieres a double feature.  That’s right, folks … 2 videos at once.  See a review by Infectious Magazine here.  Better yet, watch and enjoy, below (top volume and full screen recommended).  You can see Ruby at Katrina’s on June 18th with Gloucester’s own Inge Berge opening (another one of our favorite singer/songwriters/video producers — see some of Inge’s videos here and listen an excellent Inge Berge song below).

The Silks Make Their Debut Tonight at Katrina’s – this is were it’s at! 9pm 5.14.2016

Looking to get your face melted? Well that’s what The Silks will do for you. This power trio is rock ‘n roll reborn. Tyler-James Kelly, Jonas Parmelee and Sam Jodrey have already hit a stride that a lot of groups probably never find. They’re able to produce that fantastic 70’s rock sound in a way that doesn’t feel fabricated or dishonest in any way.

Formed in 1999 by lead guitarist JJ Rassler (founding member of influential Boston bands DMZ and guitarist / producer for The Queers) and singer/rhythm guitarist Jen D’Angora (The Dents, Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents), along with bassist Mike Yocco and drummer Dan Styklunas, The Downbeat 5 draws on British invasion bands like the Yardbirds and Animals, spikes the brew with the toughest female vocals this side of a women’s prison riot, and tops it all off with decades worth of aggression, attitude and volume. The band is often heard on Little Steven’s Underground Garage and is featured on his “Coolest Songs in the World” compilation series. The DB5 have shared the stage with such acts as; Holly Golightly, Magic Christian, The Hoodoo Gurus, The Pretty Things, The Knitters, The Blasters, The Zombies, Flaming Stars, Preachers Kids, Muffs, Dick Dale, Detroit Cobras, Sylvain Sylvain, Jayne County and countless like minded bands. Their relentlessly tough live shows have sometimes been augmented with the guest appearance of friend and Animals guitarist, Hilton Valentine.

Listen to Julie Rhodes on Beale Street Caravan while on tour…see what they have to say. I have had the opportunity to see Julie a few times and thank a good friend and music lover for turning me on to her last year. Powerful, gripping and full of songs one can certainly relate to.  Julie’s brand new and first CD “Bound To Meet The Devil” is one of the best records I own and that says a lot. Tonight at Katrina’s ~ Inge Berge Filling in for Toni Ann 7-10pm 1.29.2015

Dear Friends,
Once upon time there was a local singer songwriter who got a steady Thursday night local gig.
This was very exciting for her to play weekly with some of the finest players in her little town. One January
Thusday night she had planned to play with her good friend, and, have for the first time, her cousin
as her guest!
Sometimes the best layed plans mean nothing…this singer songer got the flu and couldn’t
Luckily her friend, Inge Berge, put on his superhero cape and saved the night! THE END

At Katrina’s tonight 1/29 from 7-10PM Inge Berge will be covering for me, so please show him your support and I’ll see you next week!
