Formed in 1999 by lead guitarist JJ Rassler (founding member of influential Boston bands DMZ and guitarist / producer for The Queers) and singer/rhythm guitarist Jen D’Angora (The Dents, Jenny Dee and the Deelinquents), along with bassist Mike Yocco and drummer Dan Styklunas, The Downbeat 5 draws on British invasion bands like the Yardbirds and Animals, spikes the brew with the toughest female vocals this side of a women’s prison riot, and tops it all off with decades worth of aggression, attitude and volume. The band is often heard on Little Steven’s Underground Garage and is featured on his “Coolest Songs in the World” compilation series. The DB5 have shared the stage with such acts as; Holly Golightly, Magic Christian, The Hoodoo Gurus, The Pretty Things, The Knitters, The Blasters, The Zombies, Flaming Stars, Preachers Kids, Muffs, Dick Dale, Detroit Cobras, Sylvain Sylvain, Jayne County and countless like minded bands. Their relentlessly tough live shows have sometimes been augmented with the guest appearance of friend and Animals guitarist, Hilton Valentine.

Listen to Julie Rhodes on Beale Street Caravan while on tour…see what they have to say. I have had the opportunity to see Julie a few times and thank a good friend and music lover for turning me on to her last year. Powerful, gripping and full of songs one can certainly relate to. Julie’s brand new and first CD “Bound To Meet The Devil” is one of the best records I own and that says a lot. This live recording just blew me away. Have a listen and hope to see you at Katrina’s this Friday.

Join us! There will be magical chicken and waffles! — Jazz Brunch wih Henry Allen & Adria Smith @ Katrina’s Sunday Nov. 1st
Once upon time there was a local singer songwriter who got a steady Thursday night local gig.
This was very exciting for her to play weekly with some of the finest players in her little town. One January
Thusday night she had planned to play with her good friend, and, have for the first time, her cousin
as her guest!
Sometimes the best layed plans mean nothing…this singer songer got the flu and couldn’t
Luckily her friend, Inge Berge, put on his superhero cape and saved the night! THE END
Great New Year’s Day Brunch at Katrina’s featuring Henry Allen and Adria Smith.
Fantastic Blood Mary with olive, cheese and Linguiça garnish, also Eggs Benedict with Crab meat.
This is one FYI that I am very excited about, tonight Thursday 11/6 from 7:00 to 10:00PM I will be playing with the talents of Thad Bernard, at Katrina’s on Rogers St. I will be there every Thursday night …sweet!
This is a new room for me and I’m looking forward to being in the downtown area…especially coming up will be shopping on Main Street for Christmas and the stores will be open Thursday nights!
Please join us tonight and as always…your support means more to me than you know.
Hope to see you there!

I’ve been dying to get into Katrina’s ever since it opened. Finally I had the chance and it was fantastic.
I have to admit I was skeptical before it opened after the space had failed with previous management and in a location where it has to compete with many well capitalized established restaurants surrounding it’s location. But once stepping through the doors and feasting on the décor and food you will undoubtedly walk away pleased that you went.
They’re doing everything right.
Check it out, right across from Minglewood Tavern.
