If you are the guy that still hasn’t bought that present for the special mom in your life let me guide you through a fail safe 20 minute guarantee to make them happy gift idea session.
All you have to do is head downtown to Gloucester’s West End.
Within one block there are 4 shops or more that will cover every gift giving idea and price range you could need.
Harbor Goods, the Life is Good store will be open from 11-6PM today.
At Caffe Sicilia you can pick up Canoli or Tiramisu for a quick visit and cup of coffee at your moms house. Caffe Sicilia is open from 7-1PM today.
A couple of doors down from Cafe Sicilia is the apparel shop First Impressions which has a wide range of designer clothes and handbags for very reasonable prices. Open 10-5:30PM
Across the street from First Impressions The Bookstore of Gloucester will be open from12-5PM. Pick up a book of local color or one of the ones recommended by the Mrs down in the post below.
All within about 30 yards of each other you can get in and out with a perfect gift all in Gloucester’s West End, without having to drive out of town to the malls.
I hope this helps any desperate people looking for gift ideas out there.
Locally First Impressions Mens and Womens Apparel in the West End of Main Street has some beautiful clothing and handbags for that special mother in your life and the prices are very very reasonable.
Another “go to” womens gift place is The Village Silversmith with locations in Gloucester and Rockport. They make hand crafted silver jewelry. It’s another place I’ve had success without having to head up the line.
Order up some fantastic canolis from Cafe Sicilia a couple doors down from First Impressions and pop in on your mother for coffee bearing gifts.
Well all that has changed with the opening of First Impressions Fashion House in the West End of Main Street.
With Mothers Day looming the pressure has been building about what to get the Mrs from our two little ones. While driving through town I spotted the display in the windows of what was obviously some timeless threads which prompted me to step inside for a look see.
The clothing ranges from contemporary casual to timeless, but what struck me most was the prices. I expected the prices to be a whole lot higher for designer labels but prices are either in line or well below what you would pay at the malls and well below what you would pay on Newbury Street.
It reminds me of when Au Beaujolais opened on Union Hill and to me touched off the local culinary boom which we have witnessed over the past 13 years or so. It’s like Gloucester is finding it’s way culturally.
Hopefully First Impressions gets discovered and makes a go of it, inviting more shops where locals could get designer clothing without having to leave the island.
The smart thing Mima D’Onofrio has done is to include timeless clothing along with her trendy lines. There really is something for everyone here.
Here you see a rack with simple sweaters and knits made with fine materials. The really great thing for shoppers though is that all these stylish well constructed pieces can be had for very reasonable prices.
Hopefully the store makes a go of it because I consider it a real asset for Gloucester to have a place like this to shop.
