Once again, a million and one thank yous to Joey and Frankie for allowing me to film and photograph from the dock at Captain Joe and Sons.
Dave is the Captain of the Lady J, which runs fishing charters throughout the year. Dave also provides lobsters to Captain Joes. Lady J Fishing Charters offers full and half day trips for bluefish, striped bass, cod, haddock, and tuna, and kids are encouraged–for an adventure of a lifetime! After reading about Dave’s charters I’d love to plan a trip with my son!
From Captain Dave’s website about the Lady J. Fishing Charters:
Hi, I am Captain Dave Jewell owner and operator of the Lady J. I would like to welcome you aboard my second home to experience what life is like as a professional fisherman. To me there is nothing better or more rewarding than a day at sea loading the boat with the best New England has to offer.
It is my mission to bring you the excitement that fishing offshore Gloucester brings me each day. Give us the opportunity to show you how great fishing can be and we will not disappoint. Just one trip and you’ll be hooked!

GLOUCESTER (CBS) – Hurricane Irene could cause major damage to homes and the economy in Gloucester.
Gloucester residents still talk about The Perfect Storm back in the 90′s, but no one is quite sure what Irene is going to bring.
People in the fishing industry and those who live along the water are preparing for the absolute worst.
“It’s certainly going to get rough, and that could impact the whole lobster industry, the gill netters, everyone. It’s not good for us at all,” said Tom Ring

When you are done watching the video you just gotta check out the website of cameraman Rick Macomber www.macomberproductions.com. He does a series of videos of the Tekka fresh fish marketplace in Little India Singapore. Visually stunning work really.
Here’s the team who brought you the piece on Twitter-

Lauren came down to talk to our fishermen about storm preparations. We shot some “C” roll material with your boy Joey but hopefully they won’t have to use my ugly mug in the telecast.

Victor Mastone talks specifically about the old anchor Dave Jewell Snarled up in his lobster gear.
Dave Jewell aboard the Lady J got this anchor snarled up with one of his lobster trawls. he brought it to the industrial boom over at the State fish pier where they hauled it off and now it sits at the top of our driveway here at Captain Joe and Sons. It stands about 6 feet tall and many people like to use them in front of a seafood restaurant or business. if you are interested in it, Dave is willing to sell it. Let me know.
He had to tie it off to the side of the boat because it was too heavy to get aboard with his lobster trap hauler and davit.
So he brought it to the State Fish Pier where he hooked it up to the industrial sized boom and lifted it enough to get aboard the deck.
Bidding starts at $500. Who wants it?
Our buddy Dave Jewell is a tuna and groundfish assassin and now he has a webpage with info on how to book a charter-

Here are some previously unreleased pictures from the kick off of the Amazing Race Season 17 which I captured in pictures and video. The Season kicks off in Gloucester Ma. and generally folks don’t get to see the very beginning of the show until it airs but we got you some insider footage to check out before the season begins on TV. According to the Amazing Race 17 Wikipedia Page “The season premieres on September 26, 2010 with a special 90-minute episode before returning to its regular hour-long format the following week.” The Amazing Race has won an Emmy every year since its creation in 2003 but got knocked off this year by Top Chef.

G-Town once again, bout to go national!
Heading out a couple of days ago Dave and his crew head out for an 18 hour steam of 153 miles to catch themselves a nice pay day. One 800 lber and one 650 these tuna will command a nice price in Japan.
When Dave headed out he was a bit nervous because where they have to go to catch these fish it’s a long way out and there’s no place to run and hide if a storm whips up. It is where there are warm ocean currents and cold water intersecting and it can produce nasty storms seemingly out of the blue and without much warning.
