Here’s a map of the Gloucester hotels, motels, resorts, bed and breakfast and you name it lodging that I whipped up in 2014 when I was serving on the tourism commission. I was curious where all these places were in relation to downtown. Laura Dow of Vista Motel and Laura Baker of Castle Manor Inn booked very full dance cards for us: two days of back-to- back lodging tours (any that signed up), speed dating style. Conclusion: there are great places to stay to suit anybody’s needs and preferences. I included some that we did not see.
This year, I added Beauport Hotel — which can handle a 400 person conference capacity!
Other news this year: Vista Motel has a new pool; Cape Ann Marina Resort initiated Boatsetter (‘Uber on the water’) and… send in updates and I’ll add it to the post.
Cape Ann SUP (Stand Up Paddleboard ) is right in there by Beauport and Long Beach for visiting guests.
Nice annual event. Gorgeous day at the Inn.
Congratulations Gloucester’s Mark Nestor. Last year it was GMG Joey Ciaramitaro, “longtime co proprietor of Captain Joe and Sons Lobster Company in Gloucester and the creator and driving force behind the blog GoodMorningGloucester.”

Stage Fort Visitor Center is officially open for the season. It was a full house last night.
Speaking of generosity: I recognized many of the returning volunteers who fill the shifts necessary to greet and assist all who walk through the door. Or around the gorgeous wrap around porch. The volunteers are a fun, dedicated group.
The opening always feels optimistic and festive. Local restaurants provided tasty signature appetizers and munchies. Laura Baker, proprietor of Castle Manor Inn, kept the table looking great all night.
Everyone takes a few moments to announce their business and any updates. Last night was no different, for instance: Vista Motel has a new, big pool; Cape Ann Marina will be making it easier for people to rent boats by matching clients with captains and vessels; the upcoming schooner race is not ‘competitive’, right?; the new concierge for Beauport Hotel put up his hand and a hello; and Sarah Oaks is fabulously readying the Maritime Gloucester shop.
I let people know that one HarborWalk marker may not be available for Hunt the HarborWalk tracing. It’s the marker at Norman’s Woe in Solomon Jacobs Park and public landing. The park should be open this weekend– and throughout the summer. Keep in mind it’s only a temporary look and opening. The park will close back up after the busy summer season. They may install that HarborWalk marker for the summer, too.
Hope all is well with you, just giving a heads up on my week!
I’ve been rehearsing a few new tunes that I’d love to play for you this week!

Tomorrow night, 5/23/14, is the kick off for Friday nights at the Castle Manor Inn, 7:00 to 10:00PM.
I will be there with the incredible….Thad Bernard and my dear friend Deby Wantman! As beautiful as the Castle may be, make no mistake, this is a very casual and comfortable atmosphere with the friendliest staff and a view that is beautiful!
On another note, last night I had gone out to see the best of the best of local talent, there we’re some tourists
in the audience asking questions about our little city of music and they were in such awe of the support and
the connection we all have, I was so proud to be part of this, again I say, I take none of this for granted!
Hope to see you,

Did you know that Hillary and Bill Clinton were in Gloucester today. We didn’t see Bill, but Hillary came to the women’s breakfast in support of Carolyn Kirk at Castle Manor Inn this morning, along with her entourage of secret service gals. It was very impressive.

EJ put on a spectacular show at Castle Manor Inn, curating the East Meets West show showcasing 8 of of fellow East Gloucester artists traversing the Great City and showcasing in West Gloucester’s castle Manor Inn.
First off the castle Manor Inn might be my first choice for a summer soirée out on that back covered deck. the views, the set-up, the food- all spectacular. Joey C A+ recommendation.
But on top of that I can’t thank our buddy EJ for all the hard work she put in curating this show.
I don’t sing her praises nearly enough. But she really is one very special lady for all she does not only for herself but for everyone around her.
Thanks Laura Baker from Castle Manor and Thanks EJ
Killer Beer Battered Fish Tacos at The Castle Manor Inn
Last evening was the opening reception for the East Goes West exhibit of works by Rocky Neck artists at Castle Manor Inn. All I can say is, Castle Manor knows how to put on an event with a flair. The function space looked beautiful, as did every other space in the Inn and restaurant, and the grounds are peaceful and meticulously maintained. Appetizers and champagne served by a very professional and friendly staff were delicious. Attendees were treated to tours of the exhibit and a sampling of rooms in the Inn, which are lovely and tastefully appointed.
If you have a wedding, anniversary or other function coming up, or friends, family or business associates coming to visit, you owe it to yourself to check out Castle Manor Inn. On a more regular tip – check out Sea Glass restaurant or just stop by the pub for a drink. The exhibit will be up through August, so stop by any time and check out the artwork and Castle Manor Inn.
Eight of East Gloucester’s Rocky Neck artists exhibit 44 pieces of work throughout the reception area, lobby, dining rooms of Sea Glass Restaurant and function area of West Gloucester’s elegant Castle Manor Inn at 141 Essex Ave. The exhibit runs July 2 – September 2 with an Opening Reception on Tuesday, July 23rd from 5:00-7:00. A great reason to visit the Inn and Sea Glass Restaurant. Hope to see you at the opening being put on by the Inn – it will be great.
Did you Know that the Castle Manor Inn at 141 Essex Ave in West Gloucester was originally called Spruce Manor. The manor was built during the turn of the 20th Century, completed in 1900, taking two years to build. The cost of its construction was $14,200.00. The manor was built for Ruben Brooks and his family, a co-founder of LePage’s Glue, then called Russia Cement. In the foyer of Castle Manor Inn, you will find a glass display case holding samples of LePage’s glues, pastes, cement and tape, as well as some history about the place and a cool Saturday Evening Post ad about LePage’s Signet Permanent Inks .
The 20 room Queen Anne Victorian with its twin turret towers has 10 lovely guest rooms, as well as 16 detached motor lodge units. They also have an excellent restaurant, Seaglass @ The Castle, serving breakfast daily from 7-10:00am and weekends from 8:00am-noon, and dinner served daily from 4:00pm in their elegant wood paneled dining rooms, or on their romantic wrap-around porch. I had an excellent veggie omelette there yesterday, which, as always, I dove into before remembering to take a photo, so it is half-eaten looking. They also have a grand sheltered function deck with lovely marsh river views and a picturesque gazebo. The deck can accommodate up to 120 guests for weddings, business conferences, meetings and celebrations of all types. For more info, visit www.castlemanorinn.com
