Mark your calendars it’s time again for the CAPE ANN SUP TURKEY PADDLE.
This race is meant to be fun and bring people together before most of us spend a few months in hibernation! Profits will go to our good friends at The Open Door, who will help fill the bellies of many Cape Ann-ers this holiday season. When: Sat, November 4th – 12:00 PM
Where: All participants can park at Essex Marina (35 Dodge St. Essex, MA 01929). Spectators can feel free to watch from the marina but, chances are, the Essex causeway will give you a better view.
Race Course/Rules: Paddlers will launch from the Essex Marina and and paddle to the “Cox Reservation.” There will be someone standing on land there with an item. Paddlers will have to grab something from them and paddle it back to the marina. “The Item(s)” are TBD (full Turkey’s are not out of the question!). First one back, wins. Plain and simple. Paddle whatever you wish, prone, race board, rec board, heck you can swim if you really want to!
Distance: approx. 1.5 mi.
Donation Amount: $40.00
After the event, we invite all participants & family members to the Cape Ann SUP board barn for a post-race, pot-luck celebration! Bring whatever you can/want. We will have outlets available if you want to bring your slow cooker! That worked well in the past.
Sign up by calling the board barn (978-233-1787) or clicking the link below.

Cape Ann SUPahBowl, Gloucester’s biggest paddle board racing event, brought more than 60 contestants to Pavilion Beach at Beauport Hotel early this morning. It was a rainy start but gave way to a beautiful day on Gloucester Harbor.
Congratulations on a such an amazing launch Cape Ann SUP! And to all who pulled this together including Beauport Hotel, High 5EM event management company, Barefoot Wine (the largest wine spritzer company in the country I was told- who knew?), One Ocean One Love retail shop, and a big family of volunteers and staff.
The race had staggered starts for 4 various classes: elite, amateur, open and kids. The elites kicked it off and had the longest distance course. The video shows the start of the first two groups heading off to turn right… at the Greasy Pole! Coast guard and police boats were on hand and a paddle board pit stop at each buoy should any help be necessary. Photos from today’s event below.

Racers return to Pavilion Beach after grueling courses. Cape Ann SUP (red t-shirts) staff wait to carry and beach each and every board as contestants dismount and sprint –carrying their paddles — through to the official finish line and timer.
Finished racers await other contestants and times. Many knew each other and competed in all 4 races of summer 2017.
Ashley and Caren from HIGH 5EM event management handled the times (I’ll post to results)
Vinnie, Dominic’s dad (white shirt), worked throughout the event (setting up finish line here with High 5em!) and worked through the celebration. “It’s a family effort and affair,” he said speaking to how the race is put on and who it caters to. There was a tremendously positive vibe!
The view from the Beauport Hotel deck is a sweeping stunner! Before the awards ceremony and reception were held, Barefoot Wine, Cape Ann SUP and One Ocean One Love shop were readying the event space with Beauport Hotel.
Gentle and fun crowd of racers. There was serious prize money and cute swag. All participants received the sweet inaugural t-shirt.
Nice to see so many families and future racers!
Seriously glistening summer day. Cape Ann SUP kypads are really holding up: we’re going on two years of steady use, after renting and taking lessons from Dominic. Gloucester is lucky to have several water sport shopping options. Besides Cape Ann SUP, we’ve had surf lessons, rented and purchased wetsuits (for guests, too) from Surfari on 210 Main Street. Cape Ann Divers in (Shaw’s) Cape Ann Marketplace is another place we’ve purchased various beach essentials and wetsuits.
Don’t forget- Join for the 1st ANNUAL CAPE ANN SUPahBOWL SATURDAY AUGUST 12 PAVILION BEACH GLOUCESTER MA http://www.capeannsup.com/cape-ann-paddleboard-events/
I keep meaning to ask him what he thinks about the self inflating type that went a tad viral in 2016. It’s still in development.
Two great upcoming events to attend or be part of! Beauport Hotel will also be announcing the winners to their customer photo contest (deadline was yesterday) celebrating 10,000 likes on Facebook, an accomplishment reached in their first year!
Call to Local artists: The deadline to apply for the Beauport Art Show is August 15th

Never fails to amaze me how that can happen so quickly!
CAPE ANN SUP is renting paddle boards at Cape Ann Motor Inn Long Beach and Beauport Hotel Pavilion Beach. It’s a great day to try it out, but be warned. We did that last year and bought a couple of kypads because of Dominic!
We’re looking forward to the First Annual Cape Ann SUPAHBOWL on site at Beauport Hotel.
Early morning Stand Up Paddling on Pavilion Beach. Makes me want to go.
Dominic from Cape Ann SUP is operating from Pavilion Beach on the weekends, Beauport Hotel carved out a little beach area for Cape Ann SUP. First Customers show up ten minutes after Dominic sets up for first time this year. Summer Is Here.
EJ and Karen swung by the dock on their SUP vehicles. When I asked them if they had ever fallen they both replied only once or twice which amazes me and shows just how stable these things are.
To date I still haven’t tried it but I’m really looking forward to the back feeling like it’s not hanging on by a thread so I can get out there.
In the meantime check out the latest from Cape Ann SUP
Anneliese Brosch and her dog in Gloucester Harbor.
Dominic and Anne from Cape Ann SUP are the new sensations in Gloucester Harbor.
Dominic at Cape Ann S.U.P. at Pavilion beach is ready for the summer.
TRY SUPYoga, this summer.
Tyler Knight submits-
The saga of the NightSUP from Cape Ann SUP continues down in sunny South Florida….
Tyler has taken the fleet and joined forces with a local company from
Ft. Lauderdale called Precision Paddleboards and the mind-blowing
The critters that we’ve seen down here are truly awesome….whether in the intercoastal waterways or out on the open ocean, the results are the same, lots of interaction with beautiful aquatic life. Squid, Jellies, Sharks, Rays, Manatees, and lots of fish, like Needle Fish and Puffer Fish,..just to name a few…..
We’ve developed a new NightSUP kit which is better, bolder and brighter…..and it’s turning lots of heads all over the country.
Gloucester Harbor was the first place we tested this product, so it seems proper to check in with the GMG family with updates…. especially since it’s a Lobster update…. check out this video from Islamorada…..
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
Today my friend, Kristi, and I went paddling with Cape Ann SUP. Such a great time!
It was beautiful weather and the fish were jumping all around us. Check them out! http://www.capeannsup.com/
Now we’re headed to the Sidewalk Bazaar!
If you would have told me some dude would be cruising around standing up on a surfboard on the 26th of January 5 years ago I would have told you to back away from the crack pipe.
But you know we’re here in Gloucester MA where anything is possible.
Next thing you know they’ll be riding around on these things at night with the whole thing lit up. Crazy right? Nope.

Stand Up Paddling at night? Seriously??? Tyler tells me you would not believe how the fish are attracted to the lights under the board. It is absolutely wild.
Like you are walking on top of an aquarium like Jesus!
