I like them both–what do you think?
James Eves and BJ Mohan
I sampled the apple cake over the weekend, just one of hundreds of dishes Felicia prepared for two intense days of non-stop shooting in preparation for her forthcoming cookbook. Oh my, is it worth the cost of the cookbook for this recipe alone!!!
BJ, like his dad Barry, is alway lending a helping hand.
Like Mother, Like Daughter
Thank you Felicia and Family for sharing your blessed and beautiful St. Joseph Day celebration. Thank you Sefatia for your stellar explanations of the traditions during filming this past weekend. Thank you Orlando Family for welcoming me to your home last year to share your beautiful novenas, which has helped enormously in developing the St. Joseph Day film project. Thank you Grace and Giambanco Sisters and Family for providing the first of many interviews to come. And my deepest thanks to all the Gloucester Families who are opening their hearts and homes this coming week during filming.
Sista Felicia’s pasta is the lightest, tenderest, sweetest melt-in-your mouth “bista” you can possibly imagine.
Everyone lends a hand in the making, including teens Amanda, BJ, and Sabrina, and with Felicia’s husband Barry, Grandma Pat, Aunt Gina, nieces, cousins, great aunts, and friends. That’s really the best part–everyone working together to keep the traditions alive by creating a beautiful and memorable event for loved ones.
Over thirty pounds of semolina flour was purchased for the pasta. Every slender slice was gone by the end of the day, either eaten or given away to all who came to the Ciaramitaro-Mohan St. Joseph Day Feast.

From the Gloucester Daily Times Taste of The Times-
These are considered a special treat by Felicia Ciaramitaro Mohan’s family, especially her son BJ, who helps make this recipe. Every Sunday, especially on religious holidays such as Easter Sunday, Grandfather Joe would make these special donuts “for us (seven Grandchildren) on Sunday mornings. This is one of many treats he and my grandmother Felicia would make for Sunday coffee time after Sunday Mass.”
The special ingredient in these homemade donuts is ricotta cheese. It is mixed into the batter and makes for a very moist and tasty round donut, which is rolled into powdered sugar right after frying them in oil.
“My Grandfather passed away when I was in high school. When my twins were born many years later, I remember counting the months till they could have table food so I could make them to enjoy on Sunday mornings and Holiday mornings just as I did growing up.”
“My kids enjoy them just as much as my cousins bother & I did. My daughter Amanda knows how to make the batter, BJ is a professional donut powdered and my husband is defiantly the best at eating them! With our busy schedules traveling with our daughter Amanda for tennis, Sunday mornings as a family are tough to fit in. In spite of this, everyone knows, including my nieces Eloise & Madeline, that when TeTe, Uncle Barry, BJ & Amanda are home on a Sunday donuts are being made while the sauce and meatballs are cooking for our family dinner!”
You may want to try them for a special day such as Easter or at any time you want to make a special treat.
Tons of Pictures and Video from the Home and Business Expo to Come. Much thanks to Nephew BJ and his pal Gabe who relentlessly promoted the blog we all love at the show!
