Congratulations again to Randy Sweet, the Saturday (and Friday) 2017 Greasy Pole Champion!Fantastic Walks Saturday Walkers, and Wonderful Costumes, too!
Several of the GP Walkers have asked how much I would charge to print photos of their walk. No charge. If you would like a photo that you have seen here on GMG, please drag it off the post onto your desktop, or take a screenshot, and send it to me in an email. I will send you the highest resolution file, which is best for printing. You can print however many you would like for your personal use. My email address is email@example.com.
Here are links to Sunday’s walk, and I will try to post Friday’s early week:

Photos of our Sunday Greasy Pole Walkers walking The Walk. Congratulations again to second time winner Jake Wagner, who was walking in memory of his Dad, John Wagner. Sunday was one of the most exciting Greasy Pole events ever, with outstanding walks and legendary losses.

Hat Ladies Amy and Robyn out did themselves in wonderfully whimsical Fiesta hats in honor of Saint Peter’s Fiesta 90th anniversary celebration.
And they sure know how to throw a fabulous party and mini Saint Peter’s procession! The Saturday Greasy Pole Walkers rallied at the sisters Orchard Street home before heading over to walk the walk.

Photos from the beautiful Sunday morning’s mass and procession in honor of Saint Peter. The mass was lead by Reverend Mark O’Connell, Bishop of the North Region of the Archdiocese of Boston, and Fr. Jim Achadinha, Pastor of the Catholic Community of Gloucester and Rockport.
I laughed out loud when coming across this batch of photos from Fiesta. I was taking a picture of Sara Favazza, when her friends just kept jumping in, wanting to be included in a photo with Sara. Watch the portrait grow!
Cousins (and one Auntie.) I love this family! These beautiful Fiesta Ladies, every one, always has a kind word. A tremendous part of the joy of Fiesta is the wonderful time spent with family and friends. Legendary Greasy Pole Champions Peter “Black Frontiero” and Salvi Benson meet up on Pavillion Beach during Sunday’s Greasy Pole. Salvi has the most wins (11), followed by Peter (9). Salvi walked the walk Sunday.
Melanie and Councilman-Greasy Pole Walker Steven Leblanc are celebrating their 30th anniversary this year ❤
After Randy Sweet’s stunning two Greasy Pole victories in two straight competitions, lots of folks were wondering if anyone has ever won the Greasy Pole contest three nights in a row. The answer is yes, Jake Wood captured the flag all three nights back in 1999! Jake still walks today and he is in third place for all time Greasy Pole captures, with seven wins. He is superseded only by Salvi Benson (11) and Peter “Black” Frontiero (9). Thank you to Jake, Joey D, and Steven for the record.
Anita, you’re always so proud of your sons (and with good reason!). This one’s for you.

This morning I was rear-ended coming home from filming Plovers. No worries, just a touch of whiplash. I was a little shook up and didn’t ask for the name of fireman, EMT, and policeman who were there within moments of calling, but would very much like to thank them, not only for this morning’s help, but I have been thinking about them all week during Fiesta. They were present at every event throughout this past week’s fabulous fiesta, and I observed them providing assistance in myriad situations. I think we are very blessed in Gloucester to have such a dedicated and compassionate team of policemen, firemen, and emergency medical responders. A most sincere thank you for all that you do each and every day, and for all that you did to make this year’s Saint Peter’s Fiesta the wonderful success that it was.
Don’t they have the greatest badges too 🙂
While we all know by now that Randy Sweet captured both Friday and Saturday’s Greasy Pole flags and that Jake Wagner is Sunday’s Champion, it is worth mentioning that there were several other, less glorified, close calls on the pole. There were also pretty epic falls.
Here’s just a bit of Sunday’s action in video and photos
Another great time at Fiesta on Saturday.
RANDY SWEET – YOUR 2017 FRIDAY AND SATURDAY GREASY POLE CHAMPION!
Randy Sweet captures the flag for the second night in a row. As is the Saturday tradition, the Friday Greasy Pole winner walks first. Randy took the flag at the top of the third round. Congratulations Randy!!!
