Butcher Block Cart Restoration With Tung Oil

The first cart restore I used Spar varnish and got great results. I wanted to try something else this time mostly just to learn the differences.

Here she is as I got her-

The updates yesterday-

Lightly sanded the butcher block cart and now about to apply a Tung Oil Finish. I don’t consider myself real handy so we will see how this goes.


First coat of Tung Oil applied. Went on easily. Now I’ll let it set up for a bit and apply a second coat.



After letting it set up overnight a third coat-

  • My father said once a day for a week, once a week for a month, once a month for a year, once a year for the rest of it’s life. I have my great grandparents’ walnut dining room table and clean it up with denatured alcohol, and then Tung oil once a year now. It looks great! I use a sheepskin buffer to shine it up, so easy!
