Does anyone know what kind of duck this is? Hi Donna–I think this is a Red-breasted Merganser. They are well-known for being super fast, powerful swimmers, so that goes with what you observed.

Nice catch! These are cute These are the “roadrunner’s of ducks for sure” they like the sea water but may be in other areas. Over here we get a lot of cranes in the rice fields late spring up until fall 🙂
