•••WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY••• Monday Night February 17th 2014 Cape Ann Weather..

The NWS in Taunton has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for our area from 7am Tuesday to 7pm .. Hazard types heavy snow at times with reduced Visibilities to a half mile or less.. Calling for 3-5″ for Cape Ann with east winds 10-20 mph . Driving conditions expected to get treacherous after 1pm.

Ok that’s from the NWS .. My thoughts really are as follows : First off will have a east or south east wind that’s a warming wind direction that would make for a very wet wet snow ! Very hard to accumulate on roadways with east / south east winds and temps in mid 30’s.. With that being said it’s not impossible but unlikely .. I’m calling for 1-2″ perhaps 3″ worst case scenario . It’s also possible we mix or change to rain … Nothing to panic over / no strong winds or freeze ups .. Minor to very minor event .. West of Cape Ann say Beverly or Salem better chance at the 5″ amounts further away from the marine influence …
After this minor event we warm up into the upper 30’s perhaps 40’s with rains on Friday … Weekend looking good at this time but that could change .. Back to winter next Monday cold returns and train of snow storms as well .. Have a great Monday night ! See ya sum time on Tuesday … Thanks for reading …
Tue: SE winds 10 to 15 kt…becoming E 15 to 20 kt in the afternoon. Gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 2 to 4 ft. Snow. Vsby 1 to 3 nm.

Tue Night: W winds 15 to 20 kt with gusts up to 25 kt. Seas 3 to 5 ft. A chance of snow. Vsby 1 to 3 nm.

  • With the storm tomorrow are you predicting a blizzard?
It looks like a mild storm. Hopefully you will use the Euro model from now on.
This will provide you with the best forecast model and set you up for success.

    • Joseph , if u read my blog u would know for sure that I’m not calling for a big storm .. And that you’re criticism only makes u look like a fool.. U must love visiting my Weather Forecasts Cuz you’re always leaving very kind comments .. In fact if u believe in one computer model then u have no idea as to base a forecast on . Euro is just one model ! And got news for u a computer model does not make a forecast . It’s a weather tool we use in forecasting but not making the forecast . Lots more to it then one model. So u had you’re say and you’re moment of fame.. Happy now .. Good have a great Evening Joesph and maybe just maybe you’ll learn something some day about my forecasting .. Thanks for viewing …:)

  • Good response like all tools that’s all they are assistant. We had a weatherman assigned to our mobility unit as we deployed allot and weather is very important for operations and unit well being. He told me this- It is too hard to decide which model Think he was talking about (Euro or GFS) is better due to the fact that weather is just so unpredictable and can change within seconds. Its weather and it’s a science of no other kind! There you have wind, waves, seagulls, seals, birds and other animals that may also be used as a model of things to come so you are 100 percent spot on Peter…

Weather coming off the eastern plain in Colorado Springs – was an example not a cloud in the sky as far as you could look blue skies March Day…So old Dave wore his blue short sleeve shirt and left jacket in car about 200 yards from main base parking lot. Went to work was getting off at 12:00 noon as I worked late the night before. I Saw People walking into the HQ building with snow and wet jackets looked out the hallway window sure enough blowing blizzard snow like 4 hours from total blue skies and no snow predicted until early evening said TV oh I be home by then. The clouds hit Pikes Peak and backed up lookout we were about 11 miles east of the springs! By the way I left my window half way down such a nice spring day – so had my driver’s and passenger’s seat with snow…lesson learned the hard way and unexpected good thing had a little Honda accord with front wheel drive good for snow 🙂 Thank You! Dave
