Oceanside Hotel at Magnolia Postcard From George Krewson III

Hi Joey,

Attached is picture of a 1910 postcard, I just purchased on-line through E-bay, of the Oceanside Hotel at Magnolia.  Interesting to know that construction was started in 1878 and the hotel was destroyed by fire in 1958.  My Dad, George Krewson Jr. purchased it in 1931 and sold it in 1945.  For this aging guy those truely were the “good old days.”

  • Great postcard! Imagine if it was still standing.

Absolutely the ‘good old days’. Ralph Snider purchased The Oceanside in 1945 and hired my Dad as comptroller. As a result, our family spend 13 glorious summers in this grand old hotel, and my memories of those years are still very vivid. I had my first taste of champagne there on V-J day that August of ’45. The postcard is one of the best pictures I’ve seen – it even shows our
    ‘cottage’ balcony. So very beautiful.

  • A true classic 🙂

  • George- Thank you so much for your posting regarding the Oceanside Hotel. My G-G-Grandfather Daniel William Fuller built the Hesperus House Hotel across the street. I am wondering if we could initiate a little online or offline chat about your memories of your days growing up at the Oceanside in the 1930’s and early 1940s. Although, the Hesperus passed from my family in the 1890s, I am fascinated by what life there must of been like in its heydays.
