OK OK OK, I Submit!
For a couple years now I’ve been hearing from my buddy Mark Ring that the best deal in town was The House of Mitch for lunch. Not just him a few other people who I consider inside insiders of what’s what around G-Town.
When you grow up in Gloucester and someone mentions the House of Mitch you don’t automatically think great lunch, but see that’s where you’d be wrong.
Scallop plate $8.95 and you can barely finish it. Haddock, fried shrimp, you name it, a ton of freshly seafood fried up and under $10.
You’re just gonna have to put any pre-concieved notions that you might have about the joint aside and see for yourself. The place is clean, and Sheila is one of the most efficient friendly bartenders that you’ll ever meet. We got hammered together one Saint Pattys Day in Southie years back with Mark and Kara Ring a good egg that Sheila.
You don’t have to drink booze just because you’re going in there either, they’d be happy to pour you a soda or a glass of milk (they must have milk for the mudslides, right?)
Oh and their chowder is freshly made and I’ve yet to see anyone serve a cup of chowder in a bowl the way they do at the House of Mitch.
Locals that know, know to go there. You should check it out for yourself.

I’ve had lunch at Mitch’s a few times, once with Janet and once with Esther (Steele) Martin. That was a few years ago, and it was great. Eat fish there wash it down with a Heineken draft. The bar is totally different than at night: Quiet and low key. Good service at the tables and at the bar. I think I’ll go there next week – I can see the building from my gallery! Lunch only, and weekdays only I believe.

back in the day, as the mailmen could tell you, the best lunch was served up by mitch lattof at house of mitch and gunga din at the old timers. value for money of course, but both those guys could cook! whole different world these days, cilantro on your lobster rolls, etc., but mitch’s is still with us and still pure good food, no bullshit. givem your business while you still can..

One of the best kept secrets in Gloucester! Lunch at the House of Mitch is hard to beat. Johnny L. and his hard-working wife delivery only good food. My wife and I are frequent visitors, and we love Sheila, who is, as Mark Ring says, “one of the best”. The fish is always fresh and delicious; the cheeks are the best in town (when available); and the roast beef sandwich is more than enough and take-out for the next day’s lunch! There’s nothing fancy about the ambiance – that’s across the street…..so is the price. Mitch’s hasresonably priced good food, excellent service, all served in a working man’s environment. We recommend it to all.

One of the best kept secrets on Cape Ann is the excellent lunch menu featured daily at the
House of Mitch on Rogers Street in Gloucester. Johnny L. and his hard-working wife serve up some of the freshest seafood available – daily from the waterfront. Sheila, the efficient, amiable, waitress gives all only excellent service. The fish, clams, scallops and cheeks (when available), should be the talk of the town. The delicious, tender roast beef sandwich is more than enough. It’s a workingman’s lunch, delivered in a casual environment, at a reasonable price….nothing fancy; if you want that, go across the street where the price is also fanc!. Captain Mark Ring, highliner, is right on in his assessment of this local eatery. My wife and I both recommend it to all.

been eating in mitch’s for over 30 years when the friday fish fry was free always good food and good service from john ,jeanette,and shiela it’s” were the boys tie one on”

p.s. ask for the roastbeef breaded “modida ” steak you can’t go wrong no one around does it like them eat 1-2-3 of them
