It’s brilliantly priced for people who don’t have to do everything an iPad can do or as seamlessly. Also there are more pixels than the already fantastic iPad screen?
This will sell well, really well for all those folks who can’t justify an iPad at the same price of a decently spec’d laptop.
You can and should pre-order one for Christmas presents if you don’t want to spring ALL the money for an iPad.

This thing has more pixels than the iPad at less than half the price? If anyone has seen the iPads gorgeous screen you know that’s a big deal. The thing will play windows videos as well as mac videos and best of all it supports Flash, so all those flash based sites you can’t access on an iPad, you can on the kindle Fire.
If they were both the same price I’d buy the iPad all day long but when you take that $200 price into account it’s tough to beat for value.
My prediction, when you want to buy one, for Christmas present’s they will be so backordered you probably won’t be able to get one.
Best move is to put in a pre-order for one ASAP and even if you change your mind you can cancel the order before November but best case scenario is you sell it for double on eBay to someone who desperately needs one to give as a Christmas present.
There’s no way they produce enough for the demand at that price point.
A laptop and/or pc replacement for $200 and will do everything that 90% of people need it to do.
Is it a replacement for a power user? Obviously not, but power users only make up 10% or less of the marketplace IMO and the Kindle Fire will capture the other 90% of the marketplace’s needs. This would be PERFECT for my mom, my wife, my nephew or niece, my sister, just about anyone whose computing use is 90% Facebook and 10% web browsing.

I completely disagree with all due respect. Taking pictures with a tablet is kinda silly. At $200 this is a tablet for the masses. I don’t see this thing ever replacing a laptop or desktop but complement those devices for someone who wants to travel light or doesn’t need one. It will be interesting but I bet they will sell a ton.

The people who want a tablet will be saving their pennies and splurging on a “full-sized” Android or iPad… however for just a few dollars more, you can choose a Kindle Fire over the current crop of eReaders… a much less demanding (and therefore possibly wider) market. Please consider the real costs to your community and privacy. Before you buy a Kindle, consider that Amazon cuts all other vendors out of the picture, including indie booksellers who support our communities.
Non-Kindle e-readers allow books to be purchased from a variety of sources. With agency pricing from so many publishers, the cost is equal.

It will have the internet which means you can use your web email services like gmail, yahoo mail hotmail, all that. It just won’t have old school email which no one at this point should be using anyhow. It’s the cloud baby- embrace it.

I know a Kindle owner. She uses it to read books, period. She likes that it doesn’t do a lot of other stuff. No distractions. But what they added is what she has wanted. Color for scientific graphics. And she plays an occasional game. Maybe even a movie. Santa just ordered one.

I am in airports all the time and there is a segment of the population that doesn’t go anywhere without their kindle. With the old kindle many of them had black and white screen games like blackjack. There is definitely a market for this and a market segment that google and ipad don’t hit right now or in immediate futer. I bet there will be an ipad 7 inch light coming soon. It’s all goodness in my view.

my wife is an avid reader and only wants one because it’s smaller/thinnner than a book and she has a whole library at her finger tips. she says she doesn’t want or need all the other bells and whistles.
