Seneca (1BC- 65AD)
Lucius Annaeus Seneca, also known as Seneca the Younger, was a Roman philosopher in the Stoic tradition, holding that one’s behavior is a better indication of one’s beliefs than one’s words. Of patrician birth, he lived during the tumultuous reigns of Caligula and Claudius. In later life Seneca was tutor and then advisor to the emperor Nero, ultimately losing favor and being ordered to commit suicide for supposed involvement in a failed assassination plot.

Thanks Greg. Great words of wisdom from Seneca. It really is pretty hard to reach your destination if you don’t have one in mind. Pretty vile of Nero forcing him to commit suicide.

Thanks, EJ. From a more Zen perspective, it did also occur to me that for a person not steering for a particular port, ALL winds are favorable. If the journey is the thing….
BTW, I just read your DYK about David Montgomery. Not only was my first boat an ancient Annisquam Fish, (ultimately sunk at the mooring at Granite Pier), but I later got to know Dave as he was making the transition from boatbuilder to painter and actor. I am proud to call him my friend. He’s one of the most generous and talented people I know. The best kind of Gloucester original.
