This past weekend was yet another insanely jam packed weekend full of events. Not just a few small ones either- there was a TON to cover.
Well the staff really shined as we covered a whole lot of Gloucester goodness
- The Kevin Riley benefit game
- The Farmer’s Market
- The Paula Karahalis concert at Harbor Loop
- The Clean Harbor Swim
- The Rocky Neck Trot
- The JJ Nicastro foundation Kidz Fun Day
- The opening at Pop Gallery
- The Downtown Gloucester Block Party
- Nelson’s Ride
- The Inaugural Ocean Pursuit sailboat race video (coming)
- and of course Run Gloucester
The task at the beginning of the weekend seemed daunting but once again the dedicated and passion filled GMG staff captured the essence of Gloucester for our local readers as well as the homesick ex-patriots that have unfortunately moved away for one reason or another.
We brought it all home and have much more from this weekend including Magnolia sidewalk bazaar videos and more coverage from the Kevin Riley benefit and Run Gloucester to share with you.
Would you look at that list of events above? They are each huge all by themselves and in most other cities or towns would carry them for an entire month and that was just one weekend here in Gloucester. How lucky are we?
Great job team!
On Monday, August 23 Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski from the Trey Anastasio Band (the guitarist from Phish) will join host Dan King at The Rhumbline in Gloucester for a special Monday Night Open Jam. Paczkowski is originally from Chatham Mass. and Lawton lived in Salem for many years before moving to Vermont to concentrate on his local collaborations. He hosted a multitude of popular open mics and jams in the North Shore and has played in the Boston area for many years (Hard Rock Cafe, the Orpheum…) through his years there and has collaborated with King often, live and in the studio.
Lawton and Paczkowski are members of Trey Anastasio’s solo band and Lawton also tours with Vermont band, Strangefolk. Between them, Russ Lawton and Ray Paczkowski have backed up the likes of Santana, Dave Matthews, Steve Earle, Los Lobos, and countless others over their celebrated careers. They have played Bonaroo. Austin City Limits, All Points West, and Red Rocks, to name just a few. Lawton and Paczkowski are pleased to bring this wealth of music experience back to the North Shore, to the Rhumbline in particular, and to the longest running jam in Cape Ann history!
Hi Joey –
Great seeing you and Ed the other night at the block party!
I am writing to see if you can help . . . .
A co-worker found a man’s wedding ring when she was walking in the Blackburn Industrial Park in the Great Replublic Drive area.
I have it in safe keeping and would like for it to be reunited with its owner. Can you help?
The grass fed beef taco’s from the Common Crow at the Farmer’s Market were a big hit. See how they were made here-

I think this guy didn’t get the message there are cameras watching their every move down at the State Fish Pier.
GLOUCESTER, Mass. — It’s 6 a.m. on a Wednesday at Good Harbor Beach in Gloucester, and 80 or so groggy athletes come stumbling over the wooden bridge and over the dunes. Their half-open eyes look toward the harbor, which is covered in a pea soup fog. The horizon’s a seamless coat of gray, merging sea and sky into one. It seems you can swim in the air it’s so humid.
Some of the teenagers are wearing T-shirts with the words “Dedication Leads to Domination” spelled out in maroon letters on the back. They wear them like badges of honor. It’s proof positive they endured last summer’s challenge.
Now they’re back for more.
Every summer since 1995, Gloucester assistant football coach Mike Lattof has led the Fishermen through an offseason workout program. Starting in July and ending a couple of weeks before the start of the fall athletic season, Lattof orchestrates a training regimen that aims to increase speed and agility.

After a long break, Where Zat? is back! Every Monday at 9:00 am, there will be a new contest. The photos are a bit of Cape Ann – sometimes very easy to identify and then the bigger challenges! But it’s always fun, and often there are prizes donated by a GMG reader or contributor.
Here is this week’s Where’s Zat?
And they are off
