The event was to raise funds to provide handicap accessibility for Veterans’ school principle Cherylann Parker, who was injured in a fall. Over a 100 vendors and school PTO’s from around the city were on hand supporting this GREAT event!
Once again the community pulled together to support a great cause.
I had a conversation with Patrick Doud yesterday, the writer who will be having his book signing Sunday at The Bookstore of Gloucester, about being an artist and creating. Specifically we talked about a subject I’ve discussed with many different artists in different mediums such as painting, writing, sculpting, blogging, basically any passion in which you are creating.
The premise that I find to be common among people who have that creative fire within is that if they hit a wall or lose momentum or stop pushing the boundaries of their medium that they get really depressed or in a big time funk.
And so it is with the blog. When I feel like I’m bumping up against the same material or formats or functions of the blog I feel an itch and it bothers me if we are not pushing forward with new ideas or if there are ways we can do things better. It may mean ways to reach more people. It may mean a better way to serve up video or pictures. It may mean higher quality production. It may mean new tools for people to use on the blog.
Some of the spawn of these itches have been the GMG Local WiFi Map, many of the various contests we hold, new HD video, and other things like that. Well now you can add another dimension to the GMG Blog- another tool to communicate with our community, another way for folks to find out what is going on around town.
It’s The Good Morning Gloucester Community Calendar. As people send me new events coming up around Cape Ann I’ll add the listings to the GMG Community Calendar so anyone can peruse what is happening. If you have an event coming up just send it along in a comment and I’ll be sure to add it to the GMG Community Calendar for our entire community to learn about.
I included a tab along the top of the page titled Upcoming Events. Click on that tab for the Link to the GMG Community Calendar and please don’t hesitate to send in suggestions.

Here below are the details of a really fun and worthwhile event tomorrow night to take place at Alchemy owned by another dear friend Mark McDonough who as you may know does a lot of wonderful things for our community. Mark helped to found the Cape Ann Timebank a few years ago and tomorrow night he will provide the place and the food for the fund-raiser for that organization in which I am a member. This is a worthy cause but even if you don’t know or care about Timebanks, it is a good deal: $7-$10 (sliding scale) includes the food and music by the renowned and beloved band Groove. Come out and have a great time with your neighbors and friends while also helping to support a good cause. See you there!!!!
From Deb Clarke,
“Whoa! good thing i passed on the coffee, i washed my paintbrush in it and didn’t even notice. there is quite a universe in there! Any coffee?”
HOW MUCH FOR THAT COFFEE CUP DEB?
Patrick Doud stopped by the dock yesterday to talk about his latest published book The Hunt For The Eye Of Ogin.
Look for the video interview tonight and attend the book signing Sunday March 21, 3PM at the Bookstore of Gloucester.
It’s funny about interviews. Sometimes I have little to no time to prepare for them and they turn out great and sometimes I prepare like crazy and they fall flat. I’m beginning to think that I do better when I don’t prepare because I’m terrified that the interview will fall flat so my awareness and questioning ability must kick into hyperdrive. When Patrick pulled into the driveway yesterday I didn’t really have a clue in the world about what I would fill an interview about other than knowing that his book had just been published. As it turns out I feel like we get to know a little about Patrick, what he likes about Gloucester, The bookstore of Gloucester and the interview went pretty well IMO.
Look for the interview tonight in any case.
Home with the windows open listening to the birds chirping and watching people walking to the beach. So I decide to go for a ride and see what going on in Gloucester on this early spring day. At Stage Fort Park, I found kites in the air, the GHS Baseball team getting ready for their 2010 season, back to the car and over to Fuller school and the GHS Girls Lacrosse team is preparing for their season with a new coach fresh off the college fields, Coach Barker bring new enthusiasm to the field.
Back to the car again, off to GHS and I find the Boys Lacrosse team starting there season with a good practice and Coach Dominick taking the boys thru the paces. Time to head home and over at the Little League field are a few who cant wait for the season to begin. What a great day in Gloucester!
I had the opportunity to visit and take photographs of the guests and their catches.
Silver King Lodge in Costa Rica, is owned by Larry Costa, and Operated by Roseanne (Ercolani) Cody from Gloucester.
It is located on the mouth of the Rio Colorado, minutes away form the best Tarpon fishing . Each day I would go out in a photo boat with an experience guide, and rush to each catch, and capture the event. At then end of stay the guests received a CD with their photos. Each night I would set up my computer, and run a slide show of the catches of the day, in the bar. |What an experience!
