How long have you lived in Gloucester?
3 1/2 years

What is your favorite season In Gloucester?
Summer. Who likes this “feels like -13” stuff?

Do you have any secret outdoor spots in Gloucester where you go to “get away”?
Yes, but not telling! It’s a SECRET.

What is your favorite pizza joint in Gloucester?
La Rosa’s.

What is your favorite sub shop in Gloucester?
I’ve never bought a sub in Gloucester. (whoops!)

What place would you go for a romantic dinner in Gloucester?
The beach. (oh, okay…and the patio at Halibut Point)

What is your favorite bar in Gloucester?
Wherever there is really good music. (and as long as the beer is cold…there are some places, there is not-so-cold-beer)

What is your favorite breakfast joint in Gloucester?
Zeke’s.

What is your favorite local event in Gloucester?
Summer’s end boat parade. (with the lights, what’s it called?)

In the summer do you prefer the beach or to be on a boat?
Beach

Who is your favorite local artist?
Okay, there’s this guy, I know his first name is “Jeff”, because I met him on the road after having snuck up behind him when he was painting down near North Shore Art Association and saw what he was doing. A month or so later, I passed him when I was walking and asked him if he was that painter and that’s when I got his name. His work was amazing. He’s generally on foot and I think lives or lived down near Beacon Marine? You know who that is? I’ve only seen a few things that he’s working on live (lurking behind and trying not to invade what he was concentrating on, I doubt he knew I was checking out what he was working on)

Which is your favorite local beach?
Good Harbor in the morning before it gets crowded.

Who has the best chowder in town?
On the clam chowder, anyplace that doesn’t add flour. (Halibut has good chowder)

Excluding GMG what is your second favorite local blog?
I actually don’t read any other local blogs! (so that defaults to yours, sorry…I like your photographs)

Do you prefer haddock chowder or clam chowder?
Clam Chowder. But Passports has this amazing red spicy fish chowder thing that is incredible and pretty sure it has haddock in it. I’d take that particular one over clam chowder any day.

What were your thoughts on The Downtown Block Parties last year?
“Wish I knew about it and wish I had gone”.

What is your favorite local band?
What Time is it Mr. Fox? (with Brian King, that voice of his!)

“Hi,
here our car is stopped at the Continental Divide on famous Route 66. We had to leave Interstate 40 for a brief stop to take the picture. We have been traveling on I 40 for the last two days, which mostly follows the historic Route 66. Tomorrow we hope to make it to Wichita in Kansas. We are taking this route to go around the big ice storm that hit the Oklahoma/Arkansas area and caused widespread power outages.”

Gloucester’s Poet Laureate John Ronan To Recite

Yesterday I got a call from Sharon asking me if I thought it would be okay to ask Gloucester’s Poet Laureate John Ronan to recite the poem he wrote in tribute of Matteo Russo and John Orlando at the Gloucester Guerilla Art event today at Cape Ann Community Cinema.

I told her sure if she could get ahold of him and he wanted to do it.  Sharon tells me that in fact he will come and is honored to be a part of it.

We will be showing up early around 12:30 if anyone wants to swing by and hang out before the show (my favorite part).

It’s Salmonella Jelly Time!

I just read that the peanut butter company that was responsible for the salmonella cases just went bankrupt.  That’s gotta suck.  Long time in business and then poof, all done.

Rescheduled Russo Fundraiser TODAY Sunday February 15th at 1:30PM

Please join us in this important event that was rescheduled due to bad weather last month–

On January 3, 2009 the Gloucester fishing boat Patriot sank taking the lives of Matteo Russo and John Orlando. Matteo Russo, 36, leaves behind a pregnant wife and four year old son. To help the family Joe Ciaramitaro of GoodMorningGloucester.com and Robert Newton of Cape Ann Community Cinema are holding a fund-raiser on Sunday, February 15, 1:30 pm, at Gloucester Stage Company, 267 East Main St. A portion of the proceeds will be contributed to the family. Tickets are $7.00.

We will have GMG TShirts Available For Purchase and 100% of the proceeds will go to the family.  Every dollar you spend toward a tshirt will be deposited into a bank account for the children of Matteo Russo after the event this coming Sunday.  So please come, have a great time, see some incredible footage of Gloucester and help the family of this horrible tragedy.

Sunday February 15th  Come one, Come ALL!

I saw several of the presentations and I can’t begin to tell you how awesome it is going to be.  For a measly $7 you will be completely entertained, and donate to a great cause.

The show is awesome led off with Rob Newton’s collection of vintage Gloucester postcards scanned in high resolution.  We saw a sample of these at the first GGAP event and it was a whole lot of fun seeing old Gloucester on the big screen and guessing where some of the locations were.

Sharon Lowe -GMG contributor and Flapping Like A Haddock blogger presents her video, “Wall St. Autumn,” is a close-up look at the beauty of fall in East Gloucester.

After that we get to see the very fresh perspective slideshow from John Hintlian, a photographer, surfer, and web designer  “Never The Same Place Twice: The Many Moods Of Cape Ann”.  John’s presentation and photography style is unique and fresh and I think you’re going to love his work (passion). Next up  Oliver Horowitz will present his short buddy film, “Eddie & Paul,” which was shot entirely in Gloucester in December 2007.

To finish Steve Borichevsky, my favorite Gloucester Photography blogger with his ShootingMyUniverse will present his video, “Walking About Gloucester: Images From America’s Oldest Seaport,” showing pictures of Gloucester and its wildlife set to music including Van Morrison.  I just love Steve’s photography.
