Memories

seine-boats

Nine years ago today, my dad, Ed “Pee Wee” Lowe, passed away. He was a Gloucester firefighter when all the wharf fires and huge hotel fires happened. He was small, yet feisty.  He had a love/hate relationship with the Red Sox, collected everything, owned the Hesperus Bottle Shop in Magnolia, and beat me in every single pingpong game we ever played.  The old firemen remember him. One cool guy. This was one of his favorite prints. Sure do miss him.   —-Sharon

Gloucester House Explosion

I’d really like to thank Mike Lindberg for sending in a bunch of the photos of the Eastern Avenue house explosion.  It surely helped get the story in pics out.

I love getting Gloucester Sticker pics from around the country.

More from Deanna-“The beach is a state beach in Harmony Calif, it’s a beach that’s on the North End of Estero Bay which your looking at behind me. It’s filled with driftwood. The big Rock in back is Morro Rock”

What were your thoughts on The Downtown Block Parties last year?

Great,
1.  We need to close down Main Street one day a week during the summer.  Doesn’t have to be at night!  Change days ,  Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sundays
2.  Each week have events at different points in the street, not always at the corner of Hancock and Main, or at the West End.
3.  Move the events on a rotating scale.
4.  Maybe have an auction,  Block dance moving from one spot to another each week.
5.  Different contests each week:  Charge a small fee $2-$5 to try the item and vote
           Chowder contest
           Pizza
           Fish
           Spaghetti
           Subs
           Pastry

6.  Have the dance schools only do a couple of dances, and once a month include the senior dancers.  (Dancing was too long, but you need the dancing to bring the people down town……they bring the children!

7.  If the 5th grade students are still doing the ballroom dancing for the school, as they to reunite to perform during the early part of the summer, or close the street down in late may for this show. ( I think Miss Tina puts that together)

8.  Have the high school science class demonstrate their robotics,  in May.

9.  Artists painting with easels on the street.

10.  Chalk drawings on the street…..Fiesta Committee might be able to let you know how they got the people that did the sidewalk chalk on the Boulevard.

11.  Scavenger hunt

12.  Find the secret item in a store window or store!

13.  Bring the Farmers market to Main Street

I have many more ideas if you want them.
Thanks, Joey

Turkey On Eastern Point

We saved a turkey.  Or at least the Mrs thinks we did.  We were taking the kids for a ride and drove down Eastern Point when we made the turn in the road past old Joe Garland’s to the left on the road across from Raymond’s beach there were three turkeys and either a coyote or a wolf a couple steps away from one of the turkeys.  I told the Mrs to get the camera out quick!

Well as I was lowering the window and the Mrs got the camera out of the diaper bag the coyote (or wolf) trotted off into the woods.  The Mrs was convined that it was about to feast on one of the turkeys but it seemed like they were hanging out at the time and it could have gotten the turkey long before we had got there in that open field.  I wish I could have got that shot, drat!
