Is There A Solution?

mug up and RD hostage taking end

Come to Mup Up on Saturday at 9:30 at YUPO Gallery and Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck Ave. to witness the solution to the Rubber Duck Hostage taking drama. The hostage takers have promised to return RD to Paul this weekend – let’s see if they are good to their word. Always fun, always good coffee, food, GMG peeps, fobs and passersby that we drag in to join us. The end is very near.

Last week’s Mug Up ended with Rubber Duck being taken hostage by a pair of adorable but vicious ducknappers. Come to Mug Up this Saturday at 9:30 to see how this drama plays itself out. Will Paul Morrison buckle under and give in to the hostage takers extreme demands to gain RD’s freedom, will RD remain imprisoned (or maybe totally forgotten about and relegated to the back of a closet), or will Paul Morrison pull off bringing a massive rubber duck to Gloucester harbor to float outside Joey’s window and stare relentlessly at him until his Flexilis anatidaephobia forces him to give up RD? Come to Madfish Wharf Saturday morning and find out.

Hobbit House II

Thanks to one of those unexpected miracles of the Universe manifested through dear friend, Alma McLaughlin, I have been given a great gallery space for the remainder of the season back on Madfish Wharf. Hobbit House II (aka Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery), located at 77 Rocky Neck Ave., Gallery 6, is a beautiful gallery overlooking Smiths Cove with great light and energy. The gallery features the works of Joey C., Donna Ardizzoni, Len Burgess, Tom Nihan, Linda Sodja, Judy Wilburn, Belle & Me, Kathy Chapman, and of course, me.

In collaboration with Regina Piantedosi at YUPO Gallery, G4, we are resuming the fun tradition of weekly GMG Mug Ups at Madfish Wharf, now being held weekly on Saturdays at 9:30am so Joey can come, followed at 11:00 by the Rocky Neck Art Walk.

GMG Mug Up Food Competition – Call to all you Great Foodies Out There

mug up and food competition

Now that we have re-established the GMG Mug Up tradition on Saturday mornings at 9:30 on Madfish Wharf (so our fearless leader Joey can be there!), it is time for one of our famous and fun GMG Food Competitions. Over the years, we have had many different types food competitions, and we want to come up with something that the awesome cooks / bakers out there in GMG land will clamor to be a part of. Joey wants it to be a cupcake competition (he is going to be one of the judges with his girls as assistants, along with James Eves and Richard Rosenfeld). Cupcakes are great, but we wanted to let those of you who would like to enter and have the chance of winning a coveted GMG food competition winner ribbon, and go down in annals of GMG history as the best at whatever it is you make really well, tell us what you would like the competition to be.

Please reply by commenting on this post if you are interested in being a contender, and what food you would like the competition to be. Majority will rule. There is no real prep area, so it has to be something you can bring in prepared and ready to go to the judges (with a little extra for Mug Up attendees to try). Don’t include a beverage. If Bob Ryan is game to sponsor another Bloody Mary or other beverage competition made with a Ryan & Wood Distilleries spirit, we’ll do that later in the season.

Madfish Wharf is hopping this summer. Saturday morning 9:30am come for GMG Mug Up and food competition at YUPO Gallery / Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery. Come hang with your favorite GMG peeps, fobs and Rocky Neck artists and neighbors on beautiful Madfish Wharf. Saturday, August 23rd will be our first GMG Food Competition of the season. Let’s get some rockin GMG peep/fob summer fun going while we still can.

Did You Know (Rocky Neck Art Colony) – You’re Invited

RNAC art walk flier

That the Rocky Neck Art Colony is one of the oldest working art colonies in the country, and has been luring artists and appreciators to its picturesque shores since the 1850’s? Today the art colony still draws artists from around the world to paint and experience the magic that is Rocky Neck. Rocky Neck is home to artists and non-artists alike, many unique galleries, The Cultural Center, Gloucester’s Rocky Neck Cultural District, and four restaurants (Sailor Stan’s for breakfast, The Studio and Madfish Grille for lunch and dinner and The Rudder for dinner). The main draw to Rocky Neck Art Colony is of course the unique flavor of the art and artists that make Rocky Neck their home and place of business.

Artists are a special breed of people, who have chosen to pursue their passion and make the world a more beautiful place. The artists of Rocky Neck are especially unique, talented and diverse in the work they create. On Rocky Neck, you can find exceptional traditional representational works, abstract, contemporary, decorative, two and three-dimensional paintings, photographs, pottery, sculptures, jewelry, wearable art, greeting cards, books and more. And you will find some of the nicest people you will meet anywhere.

Starting on Saturday, August 16 and continuing each Saturday through September, the galleries on Rocky Neck will be featuring the Rocky Neck Art Walk. It will start at 9:30 am on Madfish Wharf with a GMG Mug Up at Khan Studio and the Good Morning Gloucester Gallery and YUPO Gallery. After having coffee, refreshments and visiting with old and new friends, you can take a leisurely visit through the galleries on Rocky Neck, meet and chat with the artists and learn about their creations and creative process, at a time when the Neck isn’t crowded and parking isn’t a problem.

Come have fun, experience something new, and discover the unique treasure of Gloucester that is the Rocky Neck Art Colony.

Let’s all bring some major love and good vibes back to Madfish Wharf. Come by this Sunday at 9:30 for a grand joint YUPO Gallery / Khan Studio & GMG Gallery Mug Up. Reminder: Mug Up at Yupo Gallery this Sunday, June 22

Mug up at yupo galleryMug up at yupo gallery

Mark your calendars now.  There will be a Mug Up hosted by Regina Piantedosi at Yupo Gallery, 77 Rocky Neck Ave. Gallery 4 on Madfish Wharf on Sunday, June 22 at 9:30am.  For those of you who know the Madfish Wharf galleries, Regina Piantedosi has opened Yupo Gallery this year in the space where Gigi Mederos and Stevie Black operated Aquatro Gallery last year (next door to Khan Studio & the GMG Gallery space, which is now occupied by Sue Handman).

Regina, a lifelong resident of the North Shore and member of the Rocky Neck Art Colony for two years, has been painting for seven years, but has been a “creative” her entire life. She has lived a full and art filled entrepreneurial life writing, and working as an interior designer and florist.

Regina describes her art as a creative extension of herself, and believes each artist’s work is their fingerprint, unique to them alone. She has always been a non-representational/abstract painter, which is how she interprets her emotions.

Regina is currently using Yupo paper (hence the gallery name), a treeless synthetic product originally produced for printing. Having vast possibilities, it is resilient, eco-friendly and colors explode on it. Ink, gouache (semi-solid watercolors,) acrylic and gold leaf are her mediums of choice, and her art is created with one or any combination thereof.

Regina’s paintings are very bold, expressive and freaky (she actually has a series of paintings called “Freaks”).

A Mug Up with GMG peeps and fobs is way overdue, so plan to come on June 22nd, welcome Regina to Madfish Wharf, enjoy Rocky Neck on a Sunday morning, visit with your GMG buddies and make new friends.  Feel free to bring along something to share.  Regina will be providing coffee and a sweet bread (can’t remember what kind, but she’s Italian and married into the Piantedosi Baking family, so it will be good).  I’ll be there with deviled eggs (I know you’ve just been hankering for them).  Everyone is welcome.
