City of Gloucester launches new, smart phone friendly, official visitor website-

GloucesterMA.com

A group of volunteers today launched a new visitor website for the City of Gloucester.  With stunning visuals, expanded listings, a highly intuitive interface and search feature, the new content-rich GloucesterMA.com was built by Peter and Vickie Van Ness as part of a push by PR for Gloucester founders Tracey Muller and Jan Bordinaro to promote tourism and boost the City’s visitor economy.

“The new GloucesterMA.com features Gloucester’s authentic beauty, maritime culture, storied history and thriving arts community,” says developer/marketer Peter Van Ness.  “We feel that promoting our unique, authentic nature is the best way to attract visitors to Gloucester.  Plus this website looks and works great on all smart phones — including the iPhone.”

“The visitor economy holds great promise for creating new jobs and generating new tax revenue for Gloucester,” said Mayor Kirk, who embraced the PR for Gloucester group’s enthusiasm and encouraged them to remake the website.  “This dramatic overhaul of our official Visitor website cost the City nothing.” She added.  “We are grateful to the volunteers and partners who gave their time, photos, data and inspiration to get the job done.”

Every effort was made to include all Gloucester businesses that serve the visitor economy.  Any business that may have been accidentally overlooked can go to the site and fill out the contact page and the developers will include them as soon as possible.  New businesses can do the same.

One of the new features on GloucesterMA.com is a page of stories about Gloucester that includes videos chronicling the sinking of the Corinthian, Gloucester’s official song, links to the Cape Ann Museum’s story of Howard Blackburn, movies filmed on Cape Ann, T.S. Eliot, Rudyard Kipling and the Gloucester Daily Times special coverage of The Perfect Storm.  The PR for Gloucester group encourages anyone who has a story idea to fill out the contact form.

This website is a volunteer effort led by the City of Gloucester Mayor’s office, Tracey Muller, Jan Bordinaro and Peter & Vickie Van Ness, with the help on many partners.

The developers would like to extend our deep gratitude Joey Ciaramitaro of Good Morning Gloucester for sharing his spectacular photos & blog widget, and for his inspiring encouragement and undying support.

Special thanks go out to Bob Hastings of Cape Ann Chamber of Commerce and Frank Gentile of Udine4less for making their databases of Gloucester businesses available.

GimmeSound- Free Legal Music Downloads Video

Fellow Block Party organizer and super duper good egg Vickie Van Ness explains the way Gimme Sound works.  This is pretty freaking bad ass.  It’s this simple- you go to the site- http://www.gimmesound.com/ and you download music for free.  No gimmicks – no special software to download that’s gonna mess up your computer, just great free music.  The bands that have their music listed on the site get paid by Gimme Sound through ad revenue.

It’s totally legal, totally free and there are great local musicians listed on there such as Dan King, Allen Estes, Henri Smith, Karen Ristuben and Will Hunt.  There are many other nationally recognized musicians too.  What are you waiting for get some free music!!!!!!!

Team Can Do

I can’t even express how lucky I feel to have worked with our team on the first ever Downtown Block Party.

Work is a funny word though because not for a second did it feel that way.  It was 100% positive energy.

Erika and Dave Hansen, Peter and Vickie Van Ness, Janice, Jackie Hardy, the Council,  the performers, the Police, the liquor licensing board, Donna Ardizzoni paying for the banners, Steve Noble and Ringo Tarr for helping with the lights, Cathy Tarr for donating the Downtowngloucester.com domain name, Lee Bolton for providing technical assistance, Ernie Morin with his fantastic slide show.

AMAZING!

You wanna know who else deserves much credit?

The restaurant owners who did everything we asked of them to get the permitting done and make their seating outside cool and funky.
The YMCA Street Team for helping out keep the place clean.

The Folks at seARTS that jumped on board and moved their art exhibits on Center street to coincide with the Block Party.   The stores that had cheese and grapes.

The list goes on and on and on, point being that it was all GLOUCESTER PEOPLE pitching in for their own great vibe and giving of and to each other.

It was positive energy put forth from positive people, it was destined to be great from the start.

Thank you, thank you, thank you, for everyone that helped out and came down to rediscover how incredible downtown Gloucester with it’s cool coffee shops, incredible restaurants and unique retailers and art scene really is.

I feel like the luckiest guy on earth as I write this.

Erika, Dave, Peter, Vickie, Janice, and Jackie -the team with the positive vision and energy to carry it out, I don’t really know how it became that we all got together for this thing but I would assemble the same team 100 times out of 100 to do it all over again.

Team Can Do, we got ‘er done.

Downtown Gloucester Block Party August 16th -Be There!

Downtown Gloucester Block Party, originally uploaded by captjoe06.

Thanks to the hard work and efforts of Janice Lufkin Shea, Councilor Jacki Hardy, Erika Hansen, Peter and Vickie Van Ness it looks like the request to close Main Street was voted favorably and unanimously to recommend to the full city council the granting of the permit as requested (with conditions).
The block party was voted in favor unanimously last night. 8-0 vote with several councilors expressing their desire to see this type of thing happen more often.
Bring your lawn chairs, get ready to dance and play and enjoy all that is Gloucester community spirit!
We Rock!
