A huge heartfelt thanks to All the Gloucester Families Helping with the San Giuseppe Film Project. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

A special thank you to Sefatia for organizing the trolley, and for being the best most spectacular hostess for the St. Joseph trolley. Traveling from home to home, she knows by heart, and explains in great detail, each of the family’s alar traditions and stories. She also manages to keep the trolley gang together (all 50 or so). Thanks to Sefatia, no one was left behind!

Thanks to Mayor Kirk for sharing in the St. Joseph trolley and festivities. Gloucester is so blessed to have the BEST Mayor ever!

Thanks to CATA and Ed Sallah for donating the trolley. Ed is an amazing driver and was so considerate towards each and every member of our exuberant party.

Ciaramitaro Family and Friends St. Joseph 2013

A special thanks to Felicia and her family and friends. Felicia is the first to say she could not have done it without her dear husband Barry, her mom Pat, son BJ, daughter Amanda, her beautiful aunts and gamatis, and all her friends and family, working alongside her, from sunrise until the well past the midnight hour.

A very special thank you to Joey for inviting me to participate in his family’s St. Joseph festivities last year, which planted the seed for the St. Joseph film project.

More St. Joseph Day Preparation Photos with Sista Felicia and Family

Thank you Felicia and Family for sharing your blessed and beautiful St. Joseph Day celebration. Thank you Sefatia for your stellar explanations of the traditions during filming this past weekend. Thank you Orlando Family for welcoming me to your home last year to share your beautiful novenas, which has helped enormously in developing the St. Joseph Day film project.  Thank you Grace and Giambanco Sisters and Family for providing the first of many interviews to come. And my deepest thanks to all the Gloucester Families who are opening their hearts and homes this coming week during filming.

Sista Felicia’s pasta is the lightest, tenderest, sweetest melt-in-your mouth “bista” you can possibly imagine.

Everyone lends a hand in the making, including teens Amanda, BJ, and Sabrina, and with Felicia’s husband Barry, Grandma Pat, Aunt Gina, nieces, cousins, great aunts, and friends. That’s really the best part–everyone working together to keep the traditions alive by creating a beautiful and memorable event for loved ones.

Thank you Grace!

Thank you Grace for opening your heart and home for the first of many interviews for the Feast of St. Joseph film project. Grace is Sefatia’s sister, the youngest of four. She resides with her husband and “three babies” (two human and one pooch) at the family’s beautifully restored 1850s childhood home on Middle Street. A joyful afternoon was spent filming Giambanco family and friends as they reminisced about their fondest St. Joseph Day memories and traditions.Sefatia Grace Family St. Joe interviewLeft to right: Maria, Marianne, Rosaria, Lia, Grace, Felicia, and Sefatia

St. Joseph Novena with the Orlando Family

So many thanks to the Orlando Family for again opening their home and hearts.

Joe, Maryann, and Grandma Orlando

The singing and prayers are beautiful. We recorded an entirely different selection of songs (compared to the previous evening), followed by a delicious and lovely spread of homemade pastries and cakes, with much laughing and joke telling in the family’s kitchen.

St. Joseph Novena with the Orlando Family

I was touched beyond measure when Felicia invited my husband and I to celebrate the Feast of St. Joseph with she and her family, and to record the traditional songs and family Novenas throughout the city.

Orlando Family Alter

Rosalie and Maryann Orlando created a stunning alter; even the curtains are color co-ordinated to match their color scheme of plum, rose, lavender, and white.

Last night we recorded every song and tonight we will record the music again because the same songs are not sung every night. Then tomorrow night we will visit all the Novenas throughout the city in what Joey referred to as the “crawl’ and what Felicia calls “Italian Trick or Treat.” And then for the magnificent feast at Felicia’s home on Monday night… Stay tuned for much more to follow.

After prayers and singing  a delicious supper was served, with pizza made by Joe Orlando, salad, and homemade pastries. My deepest thanks to the Orlando family for allowing me to film thier beautiful family tradition. And for the very warm welcome to their lovely home, wonderful dinner, and much laughter!
