Rocky Neck 5K Road Race: The firstannual 5K walk/run

Organized by the Rocky Neck Art Colony and the Studio Restaurant

to benefit the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck.

Open to all ages.

Race date: Sunday, June 8, 2014 at 10:00 AM.

Gloucester MA—Rocky Neck’s newly designated Cultural District and its ocean bound environs provides the scenic backdrop for the first ever Rocky Neck 5K on Sunday, June 8 at 10:00 AM. The Rocky Neck Art Colony (RNAC) and The Studio Restaurant are hosting the 3.1 mile run//walk and celebratory lunch for race participants to raise money to support RNAC’s new Cultural Center at Rocky Neck. Racers will proceed from the Causeway on Rocky Neck, along Eastern Point Road to Grapevine Road and Lands End Lane. They will return from Gloucester’s Atlantic Road Back Shore via Farrington Avenue to the finish line in front of The Studio Restaurant at 53 Rocky Neck Avenue. Along with the free buffet lunch, post-race festivities for participants includes an awards ceremony to recognize top male and female finishers in each age category. The names of the overall top male and female 2014 finishers will be inscribed on a wall plaque in The Studio Restaurant that will remain on display to honor Rocky Neck 5K winners each year.

Online registration and information about the race, the race course and race parking are available at www.rockyneck5k.com.  Register now for$25.00 or $35.00 after May 31.  Registration forms and information can also be picked up in advance of race day at the Cultural Center at Rocky Neck, 6 Wonson Street, Gloucester, MA  01930, Thursday–Sunday, 12:00 noon to 4:00 PM and, during operating hours, at The Studio and The Rudder Restaurants on Rocky Neck Avenue in Gloucester. Walk-on registration will be available at the Cultural Center on June 8, the day of the race, between 8:00 and 9:30 AM.  For more information about registering, call the Cultural Center at 978-515-7004.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

Early registrants (before May 31)  receive free Rocky Neck 5K t-shirts. Chip timing from North Shore Timing is available for $2.00 per entry. Top male and female finishers in each of the following age categories will be awarded medals: 12 and under, 13–19, 20–35, 36–59, 60 and older.  Parking is free to race participants at the public lot on Rocky Neck Causeway, at the former Bickford’s Boat Yard lot at 31 Rocky Neck Avenue, at the Gloucester Marine Railways lot, 81 Rocky Neck Avenue and in the private lot at 20 Wonson Street—all on Rocky Neck in Gloucester.  In addition, there will is auxiliary free parking in downtown Gloucester with water taxi service to Rocky Neck provided by Gloucester Harbor Water Shuttle for $5.00 per passenger.

37th Magnolia Library Annual 5K & 1K Fun Run is Moving to Saturday Morning, August 24.  This year’s race marks the official kick off to the Magnolia Library Center’s 125th anniversary celebration.

Spread the Word! PANCAKE BREAKFAST The Library is opening the gates starting at 8:45am; right after the fun run on Saturday August 24. Yet another reason to run watch or volunteer. $5 for adults and $2 for kids.

This certified 5k course is lined with spectators, loops around the shore, and is chock full of gorgeous ocean views (and breezes!) Historically 200-400 runners participate and 50 volunteers run the show. Post-race celebrations include an awards ceremony, refreshments, and this year the Magnolia Library Center’s 125th anniversary celebration. ALL proceeds benefit the Magnolia Library Center, a non-profit community organization dedicated to enriching the lives of our residents by providing educational and cultural experiences through programming and events.

Friends of Seacoast will sponsor it’s 10th annual 7 mile road race on July 20, 2013

Friends of Seacoast will sponsor it’s 10th annual 7 mile road race on July 20, 2013 at 8:00 AM to benefit the Seacoast Rehabilitation and Nursing Center located at 292 Washington Street, Gloucester, MA. This is our main fundraiser for the nursing home. We attract a field of more than 200 runners from the Gloucester/Boston area.

Proceeds earned have provided the residents of Seacoast with hours of special entertainment, holiday parties, a monthly dinner theater with catered foods and a show, baby farm animal visits, craft supplies, games and lunch trips to local restaurants.

In these tough economical times, it is crucial that we receive donations from private groups and individuals to continue to help those less fortunate and the elders of our community. Please help us by considering one of the following sponsorships:

36th Annual Magnolia 5k Road Race

Online registration is underway for the 36th Annual Magnolia 5K Road Race.  The popular race, whose course includes scenic vistas along Magnolia’s coastline, will take place on Thursday, August 30th at 6:00 PM and is expected to draw some of the finest runners on the North Shore and beyond.  "This race has a great tradition and is a great way to kick off the Labor Day weekend for runners and spectators alike", states Doug Reny, one of the race’s organizers. 
The race is professionally timed by Yankee Timing with splits on every mile and several water stops.  The pre-race entry fee is $25 with registration and race results available on coolrunning.com.
$100 prizes are awarded to the top male and female runners and other prizes for winners of age brackets.  The first 100 Runners to register get a free T-shirt and there are fun post-race raffles for gift certificates and prizes.
"We are very pleased to again be associated with longtime sponsor Cape Ann Savings Bank as well as our new relationship with the Manchester Athletic Club", reports Reny. 
Prior to the 5K race is a 1K fun run that has proven to be very popular with first time racers of all ages.  Associated with both races is a raffle for EMC Club Tickets for a September Red Sox game donated by Giant Glass.   More information, course maps, registration to the 5K and 1K races  and on-line purchase of raffle tickets are all available at www.magnolialibrary.org Registration is also available on race day at the corner of Norman and Lexington Avenues in Magnolia. 100% of the proceeds go to the Magnolia Library and Community Center.

Tina Ketchopulous (Cape Ann Ambassador for Northeast Health Systems) suggested I contact you, as she knows I’m trying to rally as many volunteers as I can for our "Around Cape Ann" Road Race on Labor Day.  I’m thrilled to have discovered your blog, as I find it chock-full of great local information and flavor!

Be a part of history!  Support one of America’s oldest, toughest and most scenic Road Races!

What: The 77th running of the "Around Cape Ann" Road Race, the longest running 25K in the country, will take place on Labor Day!  BIG event (we’re expecting 1000 runners) rich in tradition, scenic beauty and community support. Proceeds from this Race benefit our Cape Ann Y’s Financial Aid program.

When:  Monday, September 06, 2010.  Shifts available between the hours of 8AM and 1:30PM.

How: Dozens of ways to volunteer: from handing out water, to directing runners, to supporting the Children’s Fun Run, to passing out medals at the finish line! All opportunities offer flexible time-frames and shifts! We can work within your schedule!

Where:  Race starts at Ralph O’Maley Middle School, 32 Cherry Street in Gloucester, MA 01930

Why: GREAT way to celebrate Labor Day! Start your day by volunteering for this important community event, end it by embracing Cape Ann’s beautiful beaches!!!
