Gary Clark, Jr. ~ the guy to watch tonight

You probably already know that it’s Grammy night, tonight – 8pm on CBS.  You’ve got plenty of time to bop down to Giuseppe’s to see Renee & Joe at 6pm, before the show starts. When you watch the show, look for one of our favorite young artists, Gary Clark, Jr., who is up for 2 awards:

Best Rock Song

and Best Traditional R&B Performance (for a very different sounding song)

Gary is extremely talented and great live.  Watch his star rise over the next year or two.

Giuseppe’s gets it.  They know how to blend food and music into an entertaining evening out for all ages.

Earlier this year they partnered with T Max, editor of The Noise Magazine to feature local singers and songwriters in what became a very popular Singer – Songwriter Shuffle.

Beginning tonight at 6:30pm, Giuseppe’s owners, Joe Thomas and Memory Layne are Allen’s guests on his Cape Ann TV show Local Music Seen with Allen Estes on cable channel 12.  The show airs again on Friday at 1pm, and Sunday at 6pm.  For all of you FOBs, who don’t live in Gloucester, you can now watch Local Music Seen and other shows on Cape Ann TV’s wicked cool on-line streaming service here.

If you do live here, bop on down to Giuseppe’s after the show and see rising stars Renee & Joe perform live at 7pm.  Then you can head over to the Rhumb Line and catch Allen with special guests, The Backwoods Ramblers later in the evening.

And tomorrow, live music in Gloucester starts at 1pm.  See the complete live music schedule here.

All of us are looking forward to a few weeks from now when Giuseppe’s fires up their Singer/Songwriter Shuffle for an exciting new season.  Stay tuned  . . .

Revised Entertainment Schedule
There have been a couple of minor changes to the entertainment — click here for all entertainment by stage.  Click here for all musical entertainment by time.

Don’t sweat the parking.  I’m always surprised when I hear people complain about parking in Gloucester.  Honestly, I’ve never had trouble finding a parking space — not even during Fiesta.  Last night I went to the Harbor Loop Concert.  I got there after it started on a beautiful summer night in the height of the tourist season when every local hotel is full and what do you know?  I found a parking space on Rogers Street at Harbor Loop!  In fact I had my choice of at least half a dozen free (after 6) spots on Rogers within earshot of the music.  Plus there were plenty of spaces at I4-C2.  So don’t worry about the few Main Street parking spots that are not available during the Block Party.  Trust me.  You won’t have a problem finding a space within a couple minutes walk.

Videos from Berklee in Gloucester on Thursday

Renee & Joe — just beautiful.

Those of you who were lucky enough to get tickets to see them with John Rockwell and the great Chelsea Berry tonight at Crowell Chappel are in for a real treat!

The Shills – HOT!

Great live music continues on Cape Ann tonight and tomorrow.  See the lineup here.

CORRECTION: Berklee Rock Night @ Lat 43 $10 tickets available until 5pm

Today’s Gloucester Daily Times article correctly states that tonight’s show featuring Boston rockers, The Shills with local rising stars Renee & Joe, is at Latitude 43.  But their Tunes on the Town  listing has the wrong location.

Tonight’s ALL AGES SHOW is at Latitude 43.  Doors open at 6:30.  Come for a great dinner and stay for the show.  Kids: bring your parents and prove to them that this generation is producing great music!

Get $10 tickets online here (until 3:30pm) or @ Gloucester Music or Liquor Locker until 5pm.  Tickets are $15 at the door — cash only at the door, please.

A portion of the proceeds benefits the Berklee2Gloucester Scholarship Fund.

Renee & Joe have promised an excellent set of new music.  Here’s a taste of the hot, driving, melodic sound you can expect from The Shills:

Cape Ann Rocks for the Rockaways

You heard it first on GMG: This just in from our friend Will Hunt:

Admission is free, but cash donations will be gratefully accepted. All proceeds will be donated to effective relief organizations already on the ground in the Rockaways.
Musicians scheduled to play as of today include Bradley Royds, the BFs, the Honky Tonk Women, Just Like Newman, the Buckners, Ron Schrank, Inge Berge and Guy Zacardi. Many more will appear.  A complete listing will be posted on gimmesound as Sunday approaches.

You want REAL tickets? OK, we heard you. Get them at Gloucester Music and Liquor Locker

Sample Ticket

For our first 2012/13 Berklee in Gloucester show, we didn’t have real tickets — you know the paper kind you buy at box offices and stores.  And people asked why?

Some of you just prefer to buy a real ticket.  You don’t want to go on-line or call and have your credit card charged.  And you don’t want to have your name on a list at the show.  Nope.  You want to walk in, show your ticket and take your seat.  Plain and simple.

Most importantly, you want to save your ticket as a memento.  I’ve got my share of concert and show tickets stashed somewhere.  I figure that when I get old, I’ll sit in my chair by the fire with my glasses on thumbing through these old tickets, reminiscing about this concert and that play — remembering whom I went with; what my life was like back then; how the music sounded.  Ahhh … the good-ol-days — today’s music is crap — that sort of thing.

OK, we got it.  So we printed up some snazzy tickets for this next show: Indie Rock Night featuring Boston’s The Shills with local favorites Renee & Joe at Latitude 43 on November 29 and you can get these tickets in Gloucester at The Liquor Locker @ 287 Main St. and Gloucester Music @ 210 Main Street.

These are nice, big, full color tickets with a photo of The Shills and that wicked-cool drawing of Renee & Joe.  You’ll be proud to add this one to your collection.  So hurry out and get yours soon before they’re all gone.  Or if you just want to order on-line click here.  Which ever way you buy them,  a portion of proceeds benefits the Berklee2Gloucester Scholarship fund – and remember: this is an ALL AGES show and it will ROCK!  Here’s a taste of what you can expect.

Breaking News: Berklee in Gloucester Indie Rock Tickets Available Now

You heard it FIRST on GMG: Tickets just went on sale for the next Berklee in Gloucester benefit on November 29 (the Thursday after Thanksgiving) at Latitude 43.  This is our first Indie Rock Night featuring one of Boston’s top Indie bands, The Shills with local rising stars, Renee & Joe.  Space is limited, it’s an ALL AGES SHOW, so get your tickets now.  Check out The Shills in this video (more excellent videos of The Shills here).

This concert features recent Berklee alumni from Boston and Gloucester sharing the stage to help send a Gloucester student to Berklee (more about the Scholarship Fund).  When you think of Berklee College of Music, you might think Jazz only, but Berklee is all about contemporary music, which was Jazz when Berklee was founded in 1945, and now includes  genres that didn’t even exist then.  Check out this from  Berklee’s About page:

Berklee College of Music was founded on the revolutionary principle that the best way to prepare students for careers in music is through the study and practice of contemporary music. For more than half a century, the college has evolved to reflect the state of the art of music and the music business, leading the way with the world’s first baccalaureate studies in jazz, rock, electric guitar, film scoring, songwriting, turntables, electronic production, and more than a dozen other genres and fields of study.

Simply put, if you want to study contemporary music — from Jazz to whatever genre becomes the next big thing — and you can get in to Berklee (not so easy) that’s where you want to be.  So, save the date Thursday, November 29 and come to Latitude 43 to hear some of the best Indie Rock on the planet — and, who knows, you may be helping to send the next big rock star to Berklee.

Remember, it’s an all ages show, so you can bring your kids and introduce them to the latest generation of Berklee rock stars.
