The Manchester Athletic Club and Lil’ Sprouts of Essex Preschool Partner to support the “whole child” and their families.
Lil’ Sprouts of Essex Preschool, serving students 2-6 years of age, located at #1 Scott’s Way in Essex, MA will partner with the Manchester Athletic Club’s program “Gymazing” to create “MAC SPROUTS”.
Presently Lil’ Sprouts of Essex operates on the public school calendar and is in operation from 7:30 AM to 3:00 PM Monday through Friday. Jane Lindland, Director and owner of Lil’ Sprouts of Essex recognizes there is a piece of the community that she could better serve by filling the need for an extended day after school program (3:30 PM – 5:30 PM), as well as coverage during school vacation weeks and full time summer care.
Marcy Plante, Director of Gymazing and an alumni family of Lil’ Sprouts of Essex is working hand in hand with Ms. Lindland to develop “MAC SPROUTS” which will begin in September 2014. With this partnership Lil’ Sprouts of Essex will bring to their students and families a focus on physical education, health and nutrition. Additional offerings will include instruction in tennis, swim and yoga. Students will be transported from Lil’ Sprouts of Essex to the Manchester Athletic Club where families will pick up.
The program will begin with a limited enrollment of 20 students per day. To enroll contact Lil’ Sprouts of Essex @ 978-768-6287.

Manchester Athletic Club Strengthens Fitness Program with New Director.
Manchester Athletic Club is strengthening its fitness program with leadership from Nan Gorton. Gorton was recently chosen to helm the business’ growing Fitness Division, which includes Manchester Athletic Club in Manchester by-the-Sea, MA, MAC Fitness in Rowley, MA and MAC Fitness in Gloucester, MA.
Gorton has been a staple at Manchester Athletic Club for the past seven years as a fitness trainer and co-owner of Hilltop Training, a popular running program among members. Most recently, she launched North Shore Sports Performance Institute (NSSPI), which offers sports performance training to kids 10-18 years old. She comes to the position with a myriad of backgrounds in addition to fitness, including careers as a lawyer and as an Olympic caliber athlete in the sport of women’s ice hockey.
The move will bolster the club’s already booming fitness department, which includes a ProFitness Program, personal training, TRX, pilates, swimming, basketball, nutrition and wellness, and over 75 group fitness classes—from strength to cardio, indoor cycling, Zumba, mind body, aquatics and Les Mills Body Pump and Body Combat.
“Nan brings a tremendous amount of energy, expertise and creativity to our members and, importantly, to our local community,” said Keith Callahan, General Manager and Managing Partner. “With Nan’s leadership, we’re excited to launch new programs for our members and have already developed a unique program called Commit to Get Fit that will be provided for club members as well as open to the community this fall.”
“I have always believed that great success comes from sharing a common goal and working together to make it happen,” added Gorton. “I am excited to get to work getting the best out of everyone I work with both as a coach and a manager.”
Manchester Athletic Club is a full-service health club featuring 12 tennis courts, the Gymazing! Child Center for preschool-aged children, iXl programs for young teens, a fitness and strength training center staffed with certified professional trainers, indoor aquatics center, multiple group exercise studios, and an outdoor pool with playground.

Get this salad at The Manchester Athletic Club-
Order the Greek Salad and then top it off wit a scoop of chicken salad and use balsamic vinegar instead of the Greek dressing.
Killer! Trust me on this one, you feel like a bajillion bucks afterwards, (and a bajillion’s a lot)
This weekend, Manchester Athletic Club welcomed 24 of the most elite junior tennis players across the northeast region of the nation to come together for a two-day, high-intensity camp that focused on player training, character on and off the court, and the roles of players, parents and coaches. This weekend’s camp is one of several of this caliber held at Manchester Athletic Club since the club was named a Regional Training Center by the United States Tennis Association (USTA).
Players born between 2000 and 2002 who display the greatest potential in their age groups were hand-selected by USTA regional player development directors and national coaches to train together for this prestigious two-day session. Many players already have national rankings, with seven of Manchester Athletic Club’s MAC Tennis Academy players in the mix, including: Chris Li of Westford, Sydney Weinberg, Nilos Makino and Julia Thompson of Winchester, Lexi Kubas of Ellington, CT, Grace Campanella of Wells, ME, and Alex Finklestein of Raynham, MA, who took home the USTA Courage Award.
Leading the USTA RTC Camp this weekend were nine USTA Regional Training Center Pros from across New England, as well as the Eastern and Middle States section, including USTA National coach Jay Devashetty of New York and MAC Academy coaches Francisco Montoya, Ricardo Munar and Todd Carpenter.
“Being the only USTA Regional Training Center in New England has brought our program many advantages.” said Todd Carpenter, Director of Tennis at Manchester Athletic Club. “Being able to offer our players the opportunity to play against their peers at the highest level in the country right here at their home training base is certainly one of those advantages.”
MAC players and members of the surrounding community will have another opportunity to watch tennis at its top level when Manchester Athletic Club becomes home to the Boston Lobsters, New England’s professional tennis team, this summer.
Manchester Athletic Club is located in Manchester by-the-Sea, MA, and is one of only 17 USTA regional training centers in the country. The full service health club features 11 tennis courts, the Gymazing! Child Center for preschool-aged children, iXl programs for young teens, a fitness and strength training center staffed with certified professional trainers, indoor aquatics center, multiple group exercise studios, and an outdoor pool with playground. For information about the MAC Tennis Program, contact Todd Carpenter, Director of Tennis, at Manchester Athletic Club: 978-526-8900 ext. 238 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
