ABC announces cast for ‘Expedition Impossible’ (Yep, its another amazing race coming to you in June!)

EXPEDITION-IMPOSSIBLE

Now that Mark Burnett is stealing some thunder away from American Idol with The Voice, is he now hoping to suck a little steam out of The Amazing Race?

You be the judge: Burnett is the man behind a new summer reality show for ABC dubbedExpedition Impossible, which features 13 teams of three players who will travel across deserts, mountains and rivers in the “exotic, fabled Kingdom of Morocco.” Fun? Each week a new stage of the expedition will be revealed to the competitors, who must find a way to work together to complete the trip. After 10 legs of competition, one team will cross the finish line.  Winners each receive $50,000, a Ford Explorer (nice product placement) and the privilege of never having to be called members of the Fab 3, Mom’s Army, or Grandpa’s Warriors ever again.

You think we’re kidding? Check out the monikers given to the 13 teams, which start the expedition on Tuesday, June 21. (My money is on the fishermen. Not so much for the gypsies):

Here’s Joe Sanfilippo and dory partner Marc Duval Getting In Some Early Season Dory Race Training

and after a hard fought Dory Race Win-

You may recognize Joe Sanfilippo from his interviews down at the dock, he is one of our lobstermen.  If not here he is in the RunGloucester Race-

Here’s Nino Sanfilippo Taking Home The 1998 Greasy Pole Flag-

Here is Joe Sanfilippo’s Chevy pick up truck.

Joe carries the normal stuff that skiff lobstermen carry in the back of their pick up trucks- fuel jugs, water jugs, covered fish totes to put bait in, some random buoys.

What you might also notice in the back of Joe’s truck are the dory oars and bench set up that he uses to train for the upcoming International Dory races. Joe is an avid rower and always a contender to represent Gloucester with his partner in the International Dory Races between Gloucester and Lunenburg.

He lobsters out of a 22 foot Eastern skiff after work and on weekends with his son Ryan.

Jimmy T and Tom Jarvis Winning The August ’09 International Dory Race Eliminations Video

International Dory Race Eliminations August 09 Senior Open

Jimmy and Tom were part of a team that took the Blackburn Challenge, International Dory Races and were part of the KAOS crew that won Saint Peter’s Fiesta Seine Boat races in 2009.  Best part of the video is when they finish- Jimmy T grabs a cold one and gives his wonderful wife Laurel a victory kiss.

Oarmaster’s Cup Report From Jimmy T

This just in from Jimmy Tarantino-

Oarmaster’s Cup

Ladies and Gentlemen,

It grieves me tremendously to report to you that the Oarmaster’s Cup has
been savagely ripped from my possession. Though nine  warriors braved
the high wind and waves, all posting good times, one time far exceeded
all others. With an UNBELIEVABLE time of 17:56, Joe Sanfillippo is the
new Oarmaster. Joe was in the 1st heat with Dave Perkins, 19:18, and
Bill Edmunds 20:04.
Second heat: Jim Tarantino 18:38, Dave Buchanan 19:53, Hillary Frye 24:47.
Third heat: Erik Dombrowski 18:41, Alex Thomas 20:58, Damon Cummings 23:05.

Eliminations to determine who will represent the US in Canada, on the
Weekend of September 12th, will be held this coming Saturday.
Registration is at the usual time (see website) this coming Friday
night. I believe there are no women’s crews training so any Supermodels
who would like to win a free trip to Canada need just register Friday
night!!!

Joe Sanfilippo and Marc Duvall Get In Some Early Season Dory Race Training

Cold?  Check

Drizzly?  Check

Foggy?  Check

These guys don’t care.  They are competitors and this year they want to win it all.  To all of the rest of the Dory crews don’t say you haven’t been warned!  If you are sitting at the computer reading this you are not training and Marc and Joe will be eating your lunch come race day!

Row Hard Or Row Home -International Dory Racing Sticker

This is a sticker on the back of Joe Sanfilippo’s Truck. The eliminations for The International Dory Races will be held June 7th at 8:30AM at Niles Beach. It’s a great time to grab a coffee and head over to beautiful Niles Beach to watch them compete. Bring the family and get into it, it’s local and a great way to get involved with the waterfront.  It  costs $50 to join up and use the Dorys located at Saint Peter’s Marina all year long. For more info check out their schedule and website.

Lobstermen Truck Series- Joe Sanfilippo

The back of Joe Sanfillipo’s Chevy pick up.
Fuel jugs, water jugs, a funnel, some buoys, fish totes with bait, and oars.
Notice the diamond plate rail caps which protect a lobsterman’s truck from abuse when stacking traps in their truck. If you slid traps up and down an unprotected truck rail it would get scuffed up pretty badly within the first day. With the diamond plate you can abuse it pretty good without damaging the rail of your truck.
