I’M GONNA LASSO SANTA CLAUS

FIVE DAYS UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

Known as “Little Miss Dynamite,” Brenda Lee was only nine years old when she recorded “I’m Gonna Lasso Santa Claus.” I’ve been singing this to Charlotte, and she Loves it!

In 2002, Brenda Lee was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

SEVEN DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS CAROL COUNTDOWN

2018 Marks the 200th Year Anniversary of Silent Night

“Silent Night,” arguably one of the most popular and beloved of Christmas carols, was written by a young priest, Father Joseph Mohr. He brought the lyrics to his town’s local schoolmaster and organist Xaver Franz Gruber and asked him to compose a melody and guitar accompaniment for the Christmas Eve Mass at his parish church in Obendorf, Austria. The carol was first performed in 1818.

With over 30 million in sales, Bing Crosby’s “Silent Night” is the third best selling single of all time, after Crosby’s “White Christmas” (50 million) and Elton John’s “Candle in the Wind” (33 million).

TEN DAYS BEFORE CHRISTMAS CAROL COUNTDOWN WITH “YOU AND ME”

“You and Me” isn’t a Christmas carol but I include the song with my Christmas playlist each year because it’s so sweet and because of the story of how this demo by an unknown soul group that was recorded in 1970 became popular today–so much so that you may recognize the song from the movie Blue Valentine and an Oreo cookie commercial.

The forgotten demo of “You and Me,” recorded by Penny (Nannie Sharpe) and the Quarters (Penny’s three brothers), was discovered at a yard sale by a record collector who later gave the track to the Chicago reissue label Numero Group. Forty years after the demo was made, Ryan Gosling heard the song and recommended it to the director for the film Blue Valentine. Even at the time of the release of the film, the identity of Penny and the backup singers had yet to be discovered.

The sweetly irrepressible song has taken on a life of its own since its rediscovery and you can read the full story here, here and here.

9 Days Before Christmas Song ~ The Killers “A Great Big Sled”

“A Great Big Sled” is an original song released by The Killers in 2006.

Verse 1:
The snowman is shaping up to be an eight,
but not out of ten
The robots awake to find out they’ve been taped down
wondering when
They’ll break through these chains, but
little boys have action toys for brains
I’m living proof it can last a long time
Now the girls up the street are in scents sweet
well they’re all in bed
They got their makeup and dreams, wonderland
sprinkled inside their heads
Soon they will change,
but tonight Hollywood has never seemed so strange
Their mother’s praying it’ll last a long time

Chorus 1:
I wanna roll around like a kid in the snow
I wanna relearn what I already know
Just let me take flight
dressed in red through the night on a great big sled
I wanna wish you Merry Christmas… Ho Ho Ho Continue reading “9 Days Before Christmas Song ~ The Killers “A Great Big Sled””

Are you the type of person who actually LOVES Christmas songs? I am, and find it really keeps my spirits lifted during the holiday season. I enjoy playing it throughout our home and when in the car (to the dismay of my husband) and adore Christmas music of all genres; traditional carols and standards, spirituals, and most especially, pop and rock and roll Christmas songs.  My list is quickly growing too long as I write this–The Pretender’s “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas,” U2’s “Baby Please Come Home,” Brenda Lee’s “I’m Gonna Lasso Santa Claus,” Eartha Kit’s “Santa Baby,” and a new favorite, Michael Buble’s version of “All I Want for Christmas is You,” to name only a very few. If you have a favorite Christmas song, or two, or three, or more, I would love to know yours.

Here’ is of one of my favorites to keep your spirits up and to get you through the holiday madness, “Christmas All Over Again,” by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I think you’ll enjoy the funny and sweet lyrics.

11 Days Before Christmas Song ~ “The Season’s Upon Us”

If you aren’t already, to get us  in the mood for the holidays ~

I am patting myself on the back as all my gift boxes to friends and family far and wide are in the mail a few days earlier than usual. Hooray! Next hurdle is wrapping up design projects for client’s homes before Christmas, and then family time! I love getting together with loved ones during the holidays, but sometimes it can be a challenge. Then the thought of having a Dropkick Murphy’s kind of Christmas makes me laugh and I realize that, in comparison, nothing is unnavigable!

“The Season’s Upon Us” was submitted last year by GMG FOB Kathy. What is our favorite holiday song?
