Gloucester Webcam of The Day- Blue Shutters Beachside Inn Good Harbor Beach Webcam

This Webcam and more can be found at www.gloucesterwebcam.com

This www.gloucesterwebcam.com local webcam portal project was an idea I had last year to have as many webcams streaming from local businesses or organizations as possible which highlight the incredible vistas that we as people that live and work here get to enjoy each and every day.

The idea was to have the organization install the webcam, have them embed the webcam feed on their own websites as well and have a link to each business website on the Gloucester webcam portal website to showcase their business as well.

Tim Blakeley from Gloucester Bytes provided the initial installation at ridiculously cheap cost because he believed in the project.

2012 Douglass Family New Year’s Day Plunge,Good Harbor Beach Plunge, Bruno Morel Rocky Neck Plunge Kayak Pic

Julie Douglass Writes-

The oldest Rocky Neck family, the Douglass’, participated in their own polar plunge on New Year’s Day, in remembrance of their father, grandfather & father-in-law Capt. Fred Douglass who passed away on 1/1/2006.  This was taken on “Flynn’s beach”- Wonson’s Cove at 4:30 in the afternoon as the sun was setting.

Thanks Joey!

Tony Sapienza Writes-

Happy New Year from the crew at the Blue Shutters Beachside Inn.

We wanted to share some photos of two of our New Year’s traditions – our January 1 Good Harbor Beach plunge and a New Years Eve ugly sweater contest.

We may have had a smaller group than other New Year’s Day plunges around Cape Ann, but the water was just as cold and the support was just as strong for the “Blue Shutters Dips” as they braved the frigid waters of Good Harbor Beach on the morning of January 1.  This is the third year for this New Year’s tradition.

Here are some shots of Innkeeper Patty Sapienza and friends Mary Igo of Burlington , Kim Reardon of North Andover and Deb Raymond of Waltham , as well as the group that was there to cheer them on.  In one of the shots you’ll also spot a surprise diver emerging from the waters:  Patty’s son Mike.

Finally, we tossed in a photo from the ugly sweater contest held on New Year’s Eve.  I think you’ll agree – they’re all pretty damn ugly.

Happy New Year

2012 Rocky Neck Plunge Pic- Kayak View From Bruno Morel

JoAnn Bell Writes-

Hi Joey
Thought this photo was particularly good at capturing the Plunge.  The
photo was taken from the water by Bruno Morel who was out in my
husband’s kayak so he could get some action shots from the front.

Blue Shutters — Awesome Photos

Joey

We’ve been asking guests of the Blue Shutters to share their photos, and boy are they coming through! The shots we’ve received in recent months have been some of the best we’ve ever seen, including a new batch just in…from early morning Good Harbor Beach regular Marie Pelletier of Salem , MA ; from Bob Brewer of the UK ; and from Jay Carlson of Florida (a Gloucester native). Here are a few samples — there are many more on the Blue Shutters blog and our Facebook page.

Hockey Heroes at the Blue Shutters

matt and here for the beer

Joey

We thought GMG would get a kick out of this photo of the "hockey heroes" who were here this weekend at the Blue Shutters.  The Stanley Cup Champion Bruins have yet to take the ice for the coming season, but at the Blue Shutters Beachside Inn we already have hockey fever. Our resident Bruins legend, Matt Ravlich, was back again for a week with his wife Geri and her cousin Barbara. But what made the Shutters a real hockey town for the weekend of Sept 16-18: the arrival of the "Here for the Beer" women’s hockey team. The girls — who come from all parts of eastern Massachusetts — were here for a hockey tournament in Gloucester, and fortunately this overlapped with the Ravlich’s stay here. We couldn’t resist snapping this photo of Matt with some of the team — you’ll notice Matt holding the Blue Shutters version of the Stanley Cup, which we presented to him earlier this summer. We’re looking forward to having all these folks back again next September for more hockey fever at the Blue Shutters.

Good Harbor Beach Blue Shutters BeachCam Now Live!

Joey

We thought Good Morning Gloucester crowd would be interested in the new Blue Shutters BeachCam, which this weekend began broadcasting live video of Good Harbor Beach and of guests of the Blue Shutters strolling across the way to the footbridge. The camera is right in the Main Room of the Blue Shutters, by the big windows overlooking the beach. While you can’t make out every bathing suit and boogie board, you’ll be able to tell if it’s a good day for sunbathing, beachwalking or surfing…or just watching the weather and the waves. We’ll soon have this as a direct link on our website, but for now folks can visit our site’s “What’s New” blog to access the BeachCam. http://www.blueshuttersbeachblog.blogspot.com/

FYI – we have GMG to thank for this…you featured the Fiesta webcam back in June and that got us thinking that a Good Harbor BeachCam would be a good addition.  We hope others agree – check it out and let us know what you think.

Blue Shutters Beachside Inn Knitters Weekend — April 1-3

knitters view

The Blue Shutters wanted to let its Good Morning Gloucester friends know about a cool new event planned for early next month.  On April 1-3, we’ll be welcoming those folks who like to "sit and stitch" with our first-ever Knitters Weekend.  When we started to think about ways to make this a special getaway for our guests that weekend, little did we know that we’d find an author who wrote knitting mysteries….and that these stories were set right here on Cape Ann!  Many of you have learned about Sally Goldenbaum and her Seaside Mystery series right here at Good Morning Gloucester.  On that weekend, our guests can check our these books — and take home signed copies. We also were turned on to the folks at the Coveted Yarn, and discovered an amazing knitters heaven right here in Gloucester. Even if those of us not into knitting, were impressed with this yarn shop, located just a few minutes from the Blue Shutters. We chatted with the owner, Rob, who gave us some ideas for our Knitters Weekend — he has agreed to let us organize a "field trip" to the Coveted Yarn on that Saturday April 2, where our guests can check out their extraordinary selection of yarn and other knitting items. And the Coveted Yarn has graciously offered a discount for any guests who stay with us that weekend. There’ll be other treats for those who join us for the Knitters Weekend — beginning with the opportunity to work on that knitting project or meet others who love to knit (or want to learn) while enjoying the most awesome views of Good Harbor Beach from our comfy sofas. Guests can stay one or two nights — we’re offering special discounts for groups and for two-day stays that weekend.  Call or email us for more information — and please pass this news along to those knitting lovers you know.

First-Ever Blue Shutters Beachside Inn Chili Cook-Off Set for February 12.

image

All guests need to do is bring a pot of chili for everyone to enjoy, and they get 25% off their weekend stay. Our judges – including Jeremy Goldberg from Cape Ann Brewing and Doug Silva from the Topside Grill and Pub — will choose a winner that Saturday evening, and the chili champion gets a gift certificate for a free return visit.

If folks would like to come and stay a night or two and just taste the chili, that’s OK too.

This could be a great way to spice up Valentines Day (just a few days later) — while we’ll be enjoying chili on Saturday night, there will be time for a romantic dinner downtown, a glass of champagne by the fire, a walk on the beach and much more.

Anyone who’s interested should call or email us to make a reservation and get in on the fun!
