Any idea when the Harbor Loop Concert Series starts this year? I can’t seem to find the schedule anywhere.. Thanks!
I’ll have the info soon, Maureen.
Here is some info. You probably have it by now.

The Rockport Legion Band presents the sixth concert in its 2010 summer concert series. The concerts begin at 7:00 P.M. on the bandstand at Rockport’s Back Beach.
Jason Howard leads the band this week. Planned music includes selections from both “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Dances with Wolves”; marches by Hall, Sousa, Jewell, and Huff; a suite of ballet music by Jacques Offenbach; song medleys by Vincent Youmans and Johnny Mercer; plus some swing, some ragtime, some Italian songs and show tunes from Broadway.
As always, bring your own seating and some money for popcorn. Copies of the RLB CD will also be available.
Program outlines are available on the band web page at: http//rockportlegionband.wordpress.com
I spent most of my childhood and young adult life in Rockport and love where I was brought up. I also love it’s traditions like the Sunday night Legion Band Concerts. I’ve many fond memories of playing on the beach and stopping to get a great steamed hot dog and Twin Light soda and box of Popcorn to eat while we would continue to listen to the music carry on the sweet summer breezes.
The bandstand is such a wonderful, but very much under-utilized resource it would seem, though I’m very happy to hear that it will be the location of another traditional event… The Annual Acoustic Festival being held there this year is a perfect location. Why don’t they allow for more events to be held at this sight? This question is somewhat self-serving as I am a local musical performer, but it seems to me a perfect location for a weekly performance location for Cape Ann musicians… There is such a vast and super-talented group of solo musicians and bands of various size in this area that I’m sure would be more than happy to display their talents at this location, and free of charge at that, much like they do at the Harbor Loop Concert Series in Gloucester.
I’m not sure who is in charge of the band stand and I’m aware there are many town by-laws that may effect this idea, but if there is, those laws should be changed in my opinion. As I said, this is a perfect location for such a weekly event that would draw families together for perhaps a pic-nic dinner while they listen to some very talented local musicians and it would also draw people into town on an evening that may not be particularly busy… Like a Tuesday or Wednesday evening as an example.
It would be nice to see the powers that be consider something entertaining, family-friendly and good for the town by having such a weekly musical event The legion could raise funds by providing pop-corn, hot-dogs, bugers and chips and soda for sale. Maybe even put a donation bucket up somewhere to help with any logistical or maitainance costs. Just a thought. Please consider this for maybe next season. I would be willing to do whatever I can to assist or help with the organization of such a weekly event. Please contact me if you think you might consider and support such an idea… Wes Thibodeau 978-491-8101

Ok, so I’m not tech savvy. Is there a way to post a few of my songs here?
Mike you can upload your songs free tp GimmeSound and then if people download them you get paid. We can ben feature you here if you are a local artist
Joey:
I’ve uploaded a few songs and videos onto Gimmesound.
Is it possible to have my site mentioned here?
Thanks,
Mike
Good Morning Joey:
Well, I’ve followed your advice and now have a couple of songs posted at the GimmeSound site. What’s next as far as getting myself listed (?) in the Gloucester Music scene? Yes, I’m local. Any more advice?
Thanks,
Mike
I don’t know if this is how it’s done but since I’m in the Music section I thought I’d submit a post. I’m now listed on the GimmeSound.com site with some of my own music. Give a listen when you can. They’re all one-take recordings so you’ll hear a lot of buzzing strings, out of tune voice and anything else that comes with a raw set. All you have to do is type GimmeSound.com/MikeCangemi or just GimmeSound.com then type in my name in the search bar to the right. I play nightly in my own living room.
Enjoy Free Music by New Hampshire Acoustic Band ColdStream – Monday May 2 (6:30-9pm) at Jalapenos! ColdStream specializes in three and four part harmonies and includes two guitars, a bass and mandolin. Music ranges from rock to soul to folk with some Irish tunes mixed in. Help Jalapenos Mexican Restaurant support the Breast Cancer 3 Day by coming on out! A portion of the night’s procees will benefit repeat Breast Cancer 3 Day walker Liz Dooley
I’ve had a chance to upload a few of my songs and videos at Gimmesound if anyone is interested. There’s not a lot of tech savvy in them: my philosphy, since ’71, is one take and out. No fancy gimicks – if my guitar and/or voice are off key that’s the way the song will be remain for everyone to hear. They can’t get any more live than that.
Thanks,
Mike
Hi nice site.. but no NME? sad face.
