I will not go back to Market Basket until Arthur T is back. Had to do some shopping and went to Stop & Shop, the yogurt was .59 more a package, eggs, .39 more and the produce was out of control. Sorry Stop & Shop, it might have to be Crosby’s, at least the fact that their groceries are more money is do to the fact of volume. Shaw’s forget it..

I’m becoming increasingly concerned for the employees who are going without pay during this situation. I have been waiting to do my major grocery shopping in hopes the situation is quickly resolved.

I always enjoyed shopping at MB, not just here, but if one was near my travels before they opened here, as well…that said, I always pay attention to the circulars, and if Shaws or Stop and Shop are offering competitively priced items I shop there also…BUT, if you think that I am going to cross a picket line to save $5.00 you are crazy!

didn’t affect me yet! I went to shaws and didn’t have very good service and veggies looked kind of old …but stop & shop had great veggies and service was great!! Common Crow continue their wonderful & friendly costumer service:)
I bet there are several unhappy MB costumers out there!!

Over the past few weeks I have heard people praising Arthur T., but through working as a merchandiser, who is in these stores constantly, I have heard both sides. I see a lot of younger kids and non-English speaking people behind the scenes. They all seem to be working there asses off for minimum wage. I have heard bad things about the treatment of these hard workers. Just touching on the other side.

This may sound stupid but I’m just used to the store layout of MB and when I shop at other stores, I’m all confused-lol! I do some of my shopping at Crosby’s since I live in the area and it’s convenient but it is very expensive to shop there. I hope this whole thing gets settled soon. I feel bad for the workers too.

Stop and Shop still outrageous prices. what would’ve cost me 28 dollars at MB cost me 45 at S&S. All this because two millionaires are having a pissing match.

It’s really encouraging to see such a powerful employee action in action and from a business that I use. I am looking forward to a resolution of this sooner than later, but its good to know that people are willing to take a stand in their own interest and stand behind an owner that took the time to be engaged with his employees and customers. I think if this doesn’t work we are going to see the pricing and policies that make Market Basket unique in the marketplace disappear. If they go, so will the reason to shop there.

I’ve continued going to Shaw’s, where I’ve shopped ever since moving to Gloucester 8 years ago. I have boycotted MB since it opened because I opposed Gloucester Crossing being built. The effect of the recent MB brouhaha on me is that Shaw’s has longer lines than previously.

I have always been a Market Basket shopper. I used to go to Seabrook with my parents before I was married (over 30 yrs ago) Rowley, Middleton, Danvers, Salem…I’ve shopped at all of them many times. I don’t want to return until Artie T is let back in.. but, I can’t say I NEVER will. If someone else buys them out and keeps the prices low, my pocketbook will rule and I’ll have to go back. I do shop at S&S and Shaw’s for a few special items when they are on sale for a lower price than MB and I have lots of friends and family who work at both. I have no complaint about friendliness or service… but, the price gouging pisses me off. Sure the produce at S&S is better quality and should cost more…but, a can of Bumble Bee tuna or a container of yogurt is not 40¢ better

It is convenient that this is happening in the summer when so many other fresh food choices are available. Spending a little more to hit farmers’ markets and farm stands along with the smaller markets (Danvers Fresh, McKinnons, Steves, Common Crow). I do miss some of the produce that MB carried that I couldn’t get at other places, like water cress, jicama, or Enoki mushrooms and I do miss their prices. I’ve been drawing down reserves of non-perishable items rather than going to S&S or Shaws and hoping the dispute gets resolved.
That said, I think we’re going to see a different Market Basket after this is over. Hopefully, it’s not without Artie T. but even if he stays, they’ve taken some big losses since this started. What would be even worse is if Walmart or Target come in and fill the void left if MB goes away.

I feel violated after shopping at S&S, however I feel it is important to support the very loyal and passionate employees of Market Basket. I hope and pray that it can resume back to the way it was sooner rather than later.

I miss my favorite cereal that only MB carries. I can’t figure out what the loyalty to one brother over the other is all about, but I like that loyalty. I have been to Shaws and Sand S in the past few days and both are completely overwhelmed. Their employees are not used to crowds and they really can’t cope! Certainly not a pleasant experience.

Having worked in corporate America for over 30 years, I have never seen such a display of employee support for one’s CEO. All I can say is, this guy has to be some special kind of boss! I am also for the underdog, who, in this case are the employees; therefore, they have my vote, and I will support them 100%. I’d like to meet this Arthur T guy…he’s got to be somebody special. Market Basket has given Gloucester something it has needed for a long, long, time….some place where the average family can afford to shop without being ripped off. Let’s face it, S&S and Shaw’s screwed us for years with their higher prices. (We had to go “way down the line” to get decent prices.) So I say, let’s support the people/employees of MB for as long as they need us and get Arthur T back!

My guess is that the reason Stop And Shop and Shaws are so much more expensive is because the companies that bought them paid huge multiples of yearly earnings to acquire them. I’m guessing they have a huge debt load and were thinking that when all the other supermarkets were getting gobbled up that the few remaining ones would have a monopoly and be able to charge higher prices. They didn’t account for Market Basket and their low debt structure to come in and be able to kick their butts on pricing because Market Basket didn’t pay 20-30 times earnings for their stores and have to include that debt load into their pricing structure.

Market Basket is purported to losing 10 million $ a day over the last week. If that does not motivate them to resolve this then nothing will. I am afraid that they won’t have a company left if they don’t resolve this soon. I have been shopping at Mckinnon’s, Trader Joe’s & Hannaford’s. Hannaford’s pricing is the closest to MB, that I can see. Will not go to Shaw’s or S&S, they lost my business a long time ago. It certainly isn’t the convenient or economic thing to do but I totally support the employees of MB & won’t go in there until the employees are back and those in charge smarten up. In this environment I can only applaud the employees for standing up for themselves and what it right. How refreshing & if it costs me a little bit more that’s alright with me! I hope for the best but am preparing for the worst.

Having grown up in Lowell when Demoulas started in the area, I have followed this family feud for many years. The reason Artie T is well loved is that he is a hands on CEO. He spent time in the stores talking to his staff. He treated them with respect. Artie S who owned at least 50% of the corporation never set foot in any store or the corporate office from what I have been told by friends of both families. Artie S has held a grudge for a long time feeling his family was wronged. It amazes me that both families are unimaginably wealthy, worth billions of dollars, with Artie T. putting back money into MB and his employees, and low prices for his customers. Still able to offer to buy out the company for a reported 3.5 billion. Artie S was all about more money. When he got control of the board I believe he did what he always wanted to do, take out a 300 million dollar loan to disburse to his side. I guess he wasn’t rich enough. This is a complicated story but hopefully it will turn out well for the employees and customers and Artie T. I will not shop there again until this is resolved. I don’t mind spending a few more dollars to back the employees. I honk for them as I pass by.

#shopfarmersmarkets I prefer to get my produce at the local farmers markets and farm stands such as Marshall’s Farm in Gloucester, Seaview Farm in Rockport, and many others. Don’t forget the great farmers, it’s as fresh as you can get and you’re helping sustain the local farm businesses! As for other items, I buy what’s on sale at Shaw’s & Stop & Shop. I’ve shortened my grocery list a bit, but in light of the situation, it’s worth it to support Arthur T. and the employees.

On one hand, I am thrilled to see people (employees and customers) coming together to support a cause they believe in, and I truly hope it succeeds and Arthur T is allowed to buy the company and forever end the petty family feud. Once people are reminded that united we have the power to accomplish anything we set our minds to and are willing to make a sacrifice for, we can make major changes around the world in all areas, outside of and without the help of Big Bro. On the other hand, I have a pretty bare pantry and refrigerator and refuse under any circumstances to shop at Shaw’s, so may be forced to subject myself to robbery at S&S, so am hoping a resolution comes sooner than later.

I forgot to mention that the Market Basket employees deserve our highest respect and support in what they are doing and the great sacrifices they are making by sticking their necks out so far, jeopardizing their jobs and losing income for what and who they believe in. Market Basket employees you rock like super stars!

I have not been to MB since the walk out started but I miss the better prices and merchandise when I shop at Stop&Shop. I don’t know how long MB employees can go without salary or the company without customers and it sounds like those in control will not let ATD back in. I’m not sure what the answer is but I’d sure like MB back ASAP
