That looks like a glossy ibis. I’ve only ever seen the white ones in the Florida Keys. What a great capture. I wonder what he/she is doing so far north.

Hi E.J. Thanks, I saw them last year in Clark Pond.. How are you?

A glossy ibis for sure. Joy and I used to see a lot of them when we had a cottage on Chincoteague Island, off the Virginia coast. Quite common at the Assateague National Wildlife Refuge. Having them this far north – another sign of climate change?

Thank you Tom: They seem to be coming here in early summer…

Glossy Ibis. One of our bird guides says they nest on Kettle Island, though I can’t confirm this. However I did see the strangest thing thing the other day–I was at Magnolia Woods for my son’s soccer game last week when I saw an ibis flying across the marsh there. It was cruising along low, when–boom!–it flew into a tree branch and fell to the ground. It was too far away to see if it was okay, but I have to say that I’ve never seen a bird run into a tree before. Hope it’s okay!
