  • Simply UP then, I believe.

  • This is what happens. It indicates the non-frenzied feeding of a large squalus – possibly Longimanus or Isurus glauca. Now… the enormous amount of tissue loss prevents any detailed analysis; however the attacking squalus must be considerably larger than any normal squalus found in these waters. Didn’t you get on a boat and check out these waters?

    • This Squalus displaced 1,450 tons and a beam of 26 feet, length a little over 210 feet so it was not easy getting a tissue sample.

I was planning on doing a few more AP breaking through May 24 as Lt. Commander Swede Momsem led the rescue mission that brought all 33 surviving submariners to the surface in the dive bell that he designed, but I got too busy.

I read every book published about submarines so I am not exactly positive that it was Peter Maas’s book that was the page turner I read some years ago when I added a calendar note to pop up on the 75th anniversary of the sinking.

But I think it is: http://www.amazon.com/The-Terrible-Hours-Greatest-Submarine/dp/0060932775

Kind of surprised GDT or someone else did not note the anniversary.

Hooper. I still hate that movie. Third summer working with actual women (waitresses at the Capn Kidd) complete with skinny dipping after hours and that movie shut that activity down. One bouncer humming the two note theme and all were out of the water putting their clothes back on. Fresh water included.

Quint: Hey, Hoop, you wanna feel somethin’ permanent? You just put your hand underneath my cap… and you just feel that little lump. Knock an ole un, St. Paddy’s day, Boston.

          Hooper: I got that beat.
