    Who Owns the Cow??? Notice the barren hill side. Not a tree in sight. I believe they cut the trees for fuel in those days…

    Plus, like the Annisquam pasture, it was grazing land, and so the overgrowth was kept in check. It’s interesting that New England is now far more heavily forested than it was even as recently as 1900.

    A whole different common today My mom told be there was a farm on revere street Mom’s Child-hood friend, Margaret (Margie) Knowlton, from “Knowlton’s farm Revere street bayview..thanks Donna and Fred! M :-)

    Just skied that yesterday with friends and talking about how barren it was many many years ago.

    The Babson family’s farm grazed their cows here. They owned most of the Common’s land at the time.
