    Something very special about that walk back in time…The hay is one the round bail vice out west allot of square bales…Alfalfa green bucking one too many times – them bales is heavy about 50 – 70 and get heavier as the stack get’s higher when fresh and have to let it stay in field and dry otherwise may cause Spontaneous combustion is always a possibility with stored hay but particularly if hay was baled too wet or too green. 

      Those bales are outlawed in my area of NY now. It was deemed animal cruelty for denying the critters a square meal.
