Jack Kornfield Quote Of The Week From Greg Bover

“The basic principle of spiritual life is that our problems become the very place to discover wisdom and love.”

Jack Kornfield (1945-    )

A Dartmouth graduate, Kornfield joined the Peace Corps in 1967 and was posted to Thailand where he met Achaan Chah and Mahasi Sayadaw, monks who introduced him to Theravada Buddhist thinking and practice. Five years later he returned to the United States and co-founded the Insight Meditation Center in Barre, Massachusetts. He holds a doctorate in clinical psychology and writes and teaches about meditation. His books After the Ecstasy, the Laundry and The Eightfold Path for the Householder focus on incorporating Buddhist practice into the western lifestyle. Many of his excellent audio recordings are available through the D.I.Y. Dharma and Urban Dharma websites. Kornfield currently resides in Woodacre, California, where he founded the Spirit Rock Meditation Center.

My regular readers are aware, as are my fellow GMG contributors, that I write a monthly column/newsletter on gardening, with a focus on designing welcoming habitats for birds and butterflies. My readership has grown steadily, I think largely based on the fifteen or so habitat garden design lectures that I give each year (See the Lecture Program Page on my blog) and the newsletter is now read mostly in New England, but also throughout the US, England, Canada, and Mexico.  As does my book, the columns contain a wealth of information on creating habitat gardens, how to attract birds and butterflies to our gardens, and stories about local wildflowers and wildlife. Oftentimes readers write and I find it wonderfully gratifying when they share their success stories with what they are feeding and planting to attract birds and butterflies to their gardens.

The newsletter began awhile back while I was writing a bi-monthly column for the regional newspaper the North Shore Planet. Reader’s who lived beyond the area of distribution of the newspaper became interested in the columns and it was easy to send the columns via email. The columns are in the process of being archived and they will eventually be featured on a page of their own on my blog. If in the meantime you would like to receive via email my monthly column, please email me at kimsmithdesigns@hotmail.com.

Hi Felicia, I just saw your post on Donna’s pic and realized I could send you the pic of your delicious chowder I made from your recipe. I had to use cod but it was still simply wonderful. I have always wanted an authentic recipe for chowder and this is it! Thank you again! Sharon (Saint707)

Pet of the Week- Mommy

Hello!  Do you know where the Cape Ann Animal Aid is located at the Christopher Cutler Rich Animal Shelter in Gloucester?  It is located at Four Paws Lane in Gloucester and I invite you to stop by and visit me.

My name is Mommy and I am a three-year-old black-and-white  female cat.   I like being here at the shelter, everyone is so nice.   There are large windows that I can look out and watch the birds at the feeders.

Did you hear that the Winter Bash to celebrate the CAAA’s 50th Anniversary will be held on Saturday, February 8 from 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. at Cruiseport Gloucester, Six Row Square, Gloucester.  Those wishing to donate an item to the silent or live auction are asked to contact Rebecca Baylies at 978-283-6055, ext. 23.  For further details or ticket information, please visit: CapeAnnAnimalAid.com

I am looking for another loving home and hoping that my new family will come along soon.  If that is you, you could be one lucky person!
