I saw one of those hawks literally tearing apart a sparrow on my deck and snacking on it, while I watched from 5 feet away. Maybe it’s the same one and he’s gotten onto the idea that birdfeeder = buffet?

This hawk is not the same as the red tail posted a few days ago. Although hard to identify accurately given that we can’t see the tail, and we don’t have any size comparison, I’m betting this hawk is an accipiter, likely a Cooper’s hawk or a sharp shinned hawk. They were formerly known as “bird hawks” because of their diets, so you are likely to see them near your feeder, feasting on its intended beneficiaries.
