Calling all Bird Experts. WTF is This!
My Son James spotted this bird in one of our trees this morning. I got about ten feet away and it didn’t move. Anyone know what it is?

That’s a red-tailed hawk, (I think…I have a hard time distinguishing similar hawks, like the sharp-shinned or broad-winged, but there are a ton of red tails around here. I will happily defer to a more expert birder…
This is a Red-tailed Hawk – Looks to be an Immature. The tail appears to be brown.
Looks like a Coopers Hawk.
Hawk, maybe a red shouldered, sharp shinned or coopers. Excellent photos! Not an expert but they do fascinate me.
I’ve send word to my resident bird expert friend, but looks like a red-tailed hawk?
I did post the photo of it mooning me before it took off. Maybe that one will help.
Coopers Hawk Paul. Still young the eyes haven’t changed color yet
Red Tail
I’ve looked at pics of both the Red tailed and Cooper’s hawks and it’s not entirely clear to me which one it is.
Young coopers Hawk. I took a photo of one on Eastern Pt last year.
I think the with chest patch and faint tail markings identify it as an immature Red Tail.
This is not a Cooper ‘s hawk, which would have a long, striped tail. This hawk is a buteo, probably an immature red tail.
looks like a red shoulderd hawk.
I believe this is a red tail hawk.
Let me throw another name into the mix: Osprey. We’re in FL and there are several osprey here at our dock which look very much like your photos.
Paul, I don’t know WTF that is, I just like the title to your post.
Thanks Terry! long time know see. Good luck!
