Dear Friends of the St. John’s Music Guild,
We have a great weekend of music planned and hope you will come and enjoy some great sounds:
- Saturday, March 9 @ 7 pm Peter Krasinski accompanies the 1923 Silent movie classic: Hunchback of Notre-Dame starring Lon Chaney
- Sunday, March 10 @ 4pm the Organist Guild of Rikkyo University in Japan will play a recital.
Here are the details:
Celebrating 850 years of existence this year is Notre-Dame Cathedral in Paris. We too are celebrating with our 150th anniversary of St. John’s Church! Please join us for popcorn, cartoons and fun as we have Peter Krasinski back for his 10th appearance for Hunchback!
Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for children and seniors. Call 978.283.1708 to reserve or by e-mail. If you’ve never seen a silent movie in a room full of people accompanied by music created for the event, you must see this!
Cartoons start at 6 pm when the doors open. Free popcorn! Our parking lot is at 33 Washington St.
Sunday afternoon at 4 pm 13 students from the Organist Guild of Rikkyo University in Japan will play a recital featuring music by Vaughan Williams, Widor, Franck, Mendelssohn, Howells and Liszt. These students are also visiting C.B. Fisk, Gloucester’s “Organbuilders to the world” to view a new instrument for the chapel at Rikkyo. St. John’s is home to an earlier Fisk organ nearly 25 years old, Opus 97. There is no charge for this program, you are invited!
The Students and several faculty members will join with the congregation at St. John’s for the 10:30 am Sunday worship service at 10:30 am on March 10 where the Chaplain of the University will read the Gospel in Japanese, and the University Organist Yuko Sakiyama will play the organ pieces before and after the service. Rikkyo University was founded by the American Episcopal Bishop Channing Moore Williams in 1896. The public is welcome to join us for this service.
