Growing up in East Gloucester we skated, ice fished and ice boated winters on Niles Pond. In fact, I think I was co-owner of the last ice boat to sail across the pond, probably about 1955.

I saw some ice boats on Niles Pond back in the 80’s

There was an ice boat there last Sunday. The pond was iced up all the way across, so I think your record might not stand any more.

Unfortunately, the warm weather this week has spoiled the fun. The ice was only about an inch thick this morning; nowhere near thick enough for skating.
