    I had no idea barnacles got that big. You could cook and eat that one, probably taste like escargot with a little garlic butter.

    This is a good time to be looking for a new underutilized species. A search for acorn barnacle recipes was unproductive. But there are a lot of great chefs around town — maybe someone will come up with a winner. That one looks kinda like a small conch. Come June a good supply of tender small to medium ones can be had for the taking when I haul. Compared to yours they are just scrod barnacles though.
