  1. Hi Joey, your card made me laugh– you’re singing my tune. Only 2.7 people out of 100 get the flu to begin with, and the vaccine stops influenza in only 1.5 out of 100 adults who get the shot.

    Here’s The Lancet study abstract:
    http://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099%2811%2

The vaccine has a lot of questionable stuff in it. The CDC lists the possibilities here:

Depending on what’s given in your area you might find any of the following. If anyone asks
the drugstore for a list I’d be curious to know what the local vaccines have. And why would they put spermacide in a vaccine, for heaven’s sake?

2-Phenoxyethanol is an anti-bacterial agent being used as a replacement for the preservative Thimerosal (mercury). It’s considered a very toxic material that could cause a boatload of side effects, including behavioral disorders, vomiting, diarrhea, visual disturbances, convulsions, rapid heart rate, central nervous system disorders, depression, kidney, liver and blood disorders, and reproductive defects.

Aluminum shows up in vaccines in many forms – like aluminum phosphate, aluminum hydroxy phosphate sulfate and aluminum hydroxide, to name a few. It works as an “adjuvant” to stimulate your immune system’s response to the virus in the vaccine. Aluminum is a particularly dangerous neurotoxin. It has the ability to slip past your body’s natural defenses and enter your brain – potentially causing brain damage, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, convulsions, and coma. Human and animal studies have shown that aluminum can even cause nerve death.

Ammonium Sulfate is a substance commonly added to pesticides. It’s not known at this time if it’s cancer-causing, but it has been suspected of gastrointestinal, liver, nervous system and respiratory system toxicity.
Beta-Propiolactone ranks high as a hazardous chemical on at least five federal regulatory lists. It caused lymphomas and hepatomas after being injected into lab mice, but its true effect on humans is not known. Due to animal study results, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has classified beta-propiolactone as a possible human carcinogen.
Formaldehyde is used as a preservative to stabilize the vaccine. It’s a colorless, flammable, strong-smelling chemical that’s mostly used in industry to manufacture building materials and produce many household products. Plus, it’s also used to embalm – and preserve – dead bodies. (Formaldehyde is suspected of weakening the immune system and causing neurological system damage, genetic damage, metabolic acidosis (excessive blood acidity), circulatory shock, respiratory insufficiency, and acute renal (kidney) failure. It’s been classified as a known human carcinogen (cancer-causing substance) by IARC and is ranked as one of the most hazardous compounds on at least eight federal regulatory lists.
Formalin helps preserve the vaccine. It’s a mixture of formaldehyde, methanol and water. It’s mostly used to preserve tissue samples in health care laboratories and presents the same danger to your health as formaldehyde does.
Gentamicin Sulfate is an antibiotic that ‘s been known to cause deafness or loss of equilibrioception (sense of balance). It can also be highly nephrotoxic (damage your kidneys) if multiple doses accumulate over time.
Monosodium Glutamate (MSG) excites and poisons your cells and tissues. It’s used as a stabilizer in vaccines and is also found in many processed foods.
MRC-5 Cellular Protein is human diploid cells taken from aborted human fetuses. They’re used as a culture to grow the virus.
Neomycin is an antibiotic that has been shown to have multiple effects on your body. It can be a neurotoxin and an ototoxin (affect hearing and balance). It also can cause respiratory paralysis, kidney damage and kidney failure. Plus, it retards your vitamin B6 absorption, sometimes leading to mental retardation and epilepsy. Some allergic reactions to neomycin can be life threatening.
    Octoxinol-9 is a vaginal spermicide.
Phenol is included in vaccines to help stimulate immune response. Instead, it does the opposite – by inhibiting phagocytic activity. Phagocytes are your body’s first line of defense. They engulf and digest antigens and activate the other elements of your immune system. Phenol’s phagocytic-inhibiting effect actually hinders your immune system from properly dealing with the pathogens that are entering your body through the vaccine.
Phenol is used in the production of drugs, weed killers and synthetic resins, so you can imagine the effect it has on the human body. It’s considered to be toxic to your cardiovascular, gastrointestinal, nervous, reproductive and respiratory systems, your liver, your kidneys, and your skin.
Polymyxin B is an antibiotic with some nasty side effects – neurotoxicity and acute renal tubular necrosis (the most common cause of kidney failure).
Polysorbate 80 (Tween-80) works as a stabilizer in the vaccine. It’s used in a wide variety of products including ice cream, milk products, vitamin tablets, lotions and creams and medical products like vaccines and anti-cancer medications. But it’s not as safe as it sounds. According to the December 2005 issue of Annals of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology, polysorbate 80 can affect your immune system and cause severe anaphylactic shock, which can kill. It also causes cancer in animals.
Streptomycin is an antibiotic. Its main side effect is ototoxicity – the loss of hearing.
Thimerosal is used as a preservative in the vaccine. It contains 49.6% mercury by weight and has been implicated in many health conditions. The mercury used in vaccines is second in toxicity only to the radioactive substance, Uranium. It’s a powerful neurotoxin. Plus, the inclusion of aluminum and even formaldehyde with the mercury in the vaccine magnifies the problem. Aluminum can make the mercury 100 times more toxic. Toss in formaldehyde as well, and one independent study found that mercury toxicity was increased by 1,000 times. Source

    1. “Only 2.7 people out of 100 get the flu to begin with, and the vaccine stops influenza in only 1.5 out of 100 adults who get the shot.”

Not quite right. It also comes out to 62% of the people who get the shot have been protected from getting the flu. That is a lot of people. Considering the fact the 36,000 US citizens die of the flu, for shizzy, you should get it.

The listing of all possible ingredients and side effects is pure hyperbole scare tactics which as an end result, fewer people take the shot, more people die of the flu. The post makes it sound like the CDC which conveys this information wants you to think twice about taking the shot. Nothing could be further from the truth. The CDC advocates everyone who does not live on a remote island with no contact with any people should get the shot.

Don’t spread the flu, get the shot. Don’t leave the virus on a shopping cart to kill that old lady who uses it after you. Get the shot.

  2. I had the flu in 1982, My last cold came in 1990. I am told each year to get a flu shot. If one has a natural resistance, even while showing low white blood counts during chemotherapy, I think I should stay away for the reasons stated in the post. Some people just shouldn’t get the shot. Others should get it. They may still get the flu, but not as severe. But, I also think we’re gonna get into trouble if we keep washing and sanitizing our hands every time the wind blows. Know what I mean?

    1. It may seem like all this hand washing is for the birds but in actuality you can cut down transmission of colds and flus by some 80% if everyone just washed their hands a few times a day. Alcohol based hand sanitizers work but 20 seconds of warm soapy water does a much better job.

What will get us in trouble is soaps containing antibiotics. That will kill all but a few and those few will become more resistant. Grandma was right. Warm soapy water, and hum the happy birthday song twice to make sure you get the 20 seconds.

    2. agreed donna! myself or my kids have never got the flu shot…and shocking results…we’ve never been sick! they’ve caught the common cold but isn’t that why its called “common”?

  3. If you think we should simply avoid germs, think again. A good immune system is one that is exposed to germs and get’s practice and thus stronger – it’s like exercise. Clean is good, but too clean all the time is a bit bad. Sterile has it’s place for sure, but If you want to read up on this interesting relationship betwee humans and germs and how co-existence can be beneficial, just google Polio and flush toilets and you will be amazed.

  4. I’m involved in metagenomics projects the last couple of years (the genomic sequencing of everything in your gut, or colon, or dirt in your yard, or the dirt under your fingernail. Sounds weird but actually pretty fascinating. (This week we are doing the metagenomics of the inside of a flower on a pitcher plant.)

Fun Facts: If you count up all the human cells in your body and the number of bacteria and virus in and on your body the human cells are outnumber 10 to 1. Not a typo. there our ten times more foreign cells in and on you then your cells. This is perfectly normal. If they were not there you would be in a heap of trouble.

Another good one. If you collect all those foreign bacteria and virus the average human has five pounds of foreign stuff growing in and on you. Five pounds of hamburger is a pretty decent sized pile.

And one last thing. Anecdotal stories of people who have never gotten the flu and have never received a flu shot are not informative of anything. Nor are anecdotal stories of people who got the flu shot getting the flu. Anecdotally it should happen all the time. But the data from the CDC show time and time again that the flu shot works 62% of the time (seems to be working better this year.) The percentage of people getting the flu shot this year is 40%. If that was double then the flu season would be much shorter, with far fewer cases of the flu. It is herd protection. If 80% of the herd had the shot we would not be talking about a flu season.

  5. You’ve backed my opinion. Not everyone needs to get the shot. Some people absolutely should. I don’t need it. As I get older, I’m sure I will fall into the need category.
