Are You Not Entertained?

Are you kidding me?  Would you just look at this one day’s worth of content provided to you here on GMG?

Listen, there are glossy magazines that only come out quarterly around here that don’t provide what we provide in a single day.  Glossy magazines that sell tens of thousands in ads, with paid staff, that take three months to put out a publication that I’d argue we could stack our content up against on a single day and we’re banging it out for you 365 days a year.

There are NO, ZERO, NADA media outlets providing what the team of Good Morning Gloucester contributors are putting out on a daily basis.

No Way, No How, End of Story!

The interesting conversations going on in the comment sections of the vegan and Rockport Breakwater posts, the incredible photography, the music scene, the local food posts, the inside and out coverage of the Rocky Neck Plunge, the old vintage recipes.

Could. Not. Be. Prouder. Of. My. Team. #Boom!

ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED????

A great 2012 New Year’s resolution DELIVERED to Open Door!

Day to day you see a lot of useless stuff come across social media feeds. If you Like the Open Door Facebook page, you saw this uplifting post come across your screen. This is the  power of one at its best. Setting a goal and accomplishing it for the greater good of the local community! Pure awesomeness!

Roger Corbin set a goal to donate 20 pounds a week to The Open Door and used bottle returns and extreme couponing to hit his goal. Congrats to everyone around who benefits from this truly amazing act of kindness.

Ron Gilson’s An Island No More

Thank you Ron for this treasured gift of An Island No More!!!

An Island No More Ron Gilson ©Kim Smith 2013Yesterday on our front porch my husband found a wonderful surprise package, not long a mystery from where it came with a lovely inscription from the author himself, Ron Gilson.  An Island No More ~ The Gloucester I Knew is a deeply personal and fascinating account of Gloucester’s working waterfront and its people, with hundreds of black and white photographs. I was immediately transported to Gloucester during the Great Depression and haven’t been able to put down the book. An Island No More is available from Amazon or by contacting the author at P.O. Box 557, Gloucester, MA 01930.
Note: The little boy sitting on the dock and looking at the Emily Brown (see the book jacket illustration) is none other than RON at eleven years old, circa 1944.

As of yesterday, there were only 50 tickets left to Chelsea Berry’s triumphant return to Shalin Liu with her new band, performing songs from her new CD.  And the concert is on Feb 9 (five weeks from Saturday).

Do you really want to be one of those people who clicks on this link in two weeks and screams at the computer, Oh Sh*t, it’s sold out?

Just in case you missed her opening for Chris Isaak at North Shore Music Theatre last June, here’s a taste of what you can expect next month in a much more intimate setting:

Now just because it’s cold, doesn’t mean the weekend doesn’t start on Thursday.  Good live music choices tonight.  See the complete lineup here.

STRUCK BY LIGHTNING PREMIERE EVENT taking place Jan/6 @ Cape Ann Cinema!

Hi Joey,

I  wanted to write and see if you would be interested in mentioning the below special event, taking place this Sunday, January 6th at Cape Ann Cinema in Gloucester MA,  on your website?

The below press release has more information for you regarding the special premiere event for Chris Colfer’s (Glee) new movie STRUCK BY LIGHTNING opening January 6th in select theatres. Chris both wrote and stars in the film alongside an all star ensemble cast of Dermot Mulroney, Christina Hendricks, Sarah Hyland, Rebel Wilson and Allison Janney.

Tribeca Film in a partnership with Emerging Pictures will be bringing “Glee” star Chris Colfer’s film debut, the high school comedy Struck By Lightning, to theaters nationwide for a special interactive Q&A screening event on Sunday, January 6th. Cinemas across the country will host the film’s theatrical premiere the same time as its red-carpet launch in Los Angeles. All over the United States, audiences will have a chance to see the film in theaters before its January 11th theatrical release date. Chris will participate remotely from the LA premiere for a live and interactive webcast Q&A at the conclusion of the film. Viewers will have the opportunity to ask questions via Twitter.  A full list of participating theaters can be found athttp://www.tribecafilm.com/struckbylightning

In addition to starring in the movie, Colfer also wrote the screenplay for the film, which had its world premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival and was met with a standing ovation. Directed with awareness and exuberance by Brian Dannelly (Saved!), the highly anticipated film also stars Allison Janney, Polly Bergen, Rebel Wilson, Christina Hendricks, Dermot Mulroney, Sarah Hyland and Angela Kinsey.

High school senior Carson Phillips (Chris Colfer) was destined for bigger things than his close-minded small town could ever offer. He was on a path to greatness, but destiny had a different plan when he was suddenly killed by a bolt of lightning in his school parking lot.

Demonstrating that life is what happens while you’re busy planning your future, Carson recounts the last few weeks of his life via witty, insightful flashbacks, including a blackmail scheme targeting the popular kids in school that he concocts with his best friend (Rebel Wilson, Bridesmaids), and a home life that includes a mother (Allison Janney, Juno, “The West Wing”) who’s more interested in the bottle than her son’s future and an estranged father (Dermot Mulroney, My Best Friend’s Wedding) who suddenly appears with a pregnant fiancée (Christina Hendricks, “Mad Men”).

Struck By Lightning is a co-production between Permut Presentations and Camellia Entertainment in association with Inphenate and Evil Media Empire.  It is produced by David Permut, Roberto Aguire and Mia Chang. Along with Colfer, the executive producers include Jason Michael Berman, Glenn Rigberg and Lawrence Kopeikin. Co-producers on the project are Monica Aguirre Diez Barroso, Steve Longi, and Mark Moran.

Thursday Night Blues Party to host A Train Quartet ~ What a way to start out the New Year!

a trainDave says,

Let’s break in the new year with a bang. Please welcome the debut of the remnants of “A” Train, that Rockport powerhouse of swing and rhythm. Featuring the father/son pairing of Rik and Alec Razdan, both saxophone swamis and scientific ubermenches. They’ll be dragging along their longtime piano jackhammer, Mr. John Hyde and dedicated drumbler, Mr. David “Doc” Vincent kicking and screaming to the stage to regale you with rhythm and honk, honk, honk. It’ll be like 4000 geese flying thru your head. Be prepared to shake your tootsies as  we jump into the  cesspool of swing without holding our breath. EMTs will be standing by.
And, don’t forget, next  Thu. the10th, we’ll be cerebrating The  80th birthday of that magnificent maestro of surf mayhem: Mr. Johnny Carwash (aka Bob Davis). To beef up the festivities, we’ve added Mr. Dave Brown and Mr. David Mattacks to the fire. This is going to be a first. You might have to change your underwear, so, bring a spare.
But wait! There’s more! Following in the footsteps of aural gore, The17th sees the annual return  of Mr. Gordon “Sax” Beadle Like the winter solstice , we’ll be sacrificing on the altar of the great muddy boot, asking forgiveness and taking no prisoners. Stretchers will bring in First time guitarist, Mr. Matt Stubbs, wanted for murdering ear cells , and Mr. Chris Ravelli, drummer for Roomful of Blooze. This is the greatest night of the year. If  you’ve never seen Gordie, you should be ashamed of yourself. You won’t wanna eat after hearing this guy.
And, thanks to  all you groovy kate and kittens for supporting live music thru out the year. Not just at the Rhumb Line on Thursdays but all over town, every night, everywhere. We all thank you and wish you  all the very best for the coming year.

suitcase full of lobsters

Woman’s missing suitcase full of lobsters has been found

What’s black, has wheels and is stuffed to the gills? Why, a suitcase filled with frozen lobsters, of course. Police in Halifax, Nova Scotia, put out a call for a “suitcase full of lobster and gifts,” which a bus driver found lying in the street. Krista Nash was alerted to the bulletin, and was overjoyed — it belonged to her sister-in-law, Stacey Nash, and had fallen from a pickup while taking Stacey to the airport on New Year’s Eve. But, ew, who wants to eat a bunch of spoiled lobsters? Fortunately, an alert cop had placed the suitcase in a freezer. “They’re going to be able to have lobster,” a police spokesman said. [Source]
